#18. 1960′s Singapore is a Boat Ride Away

Another of our little islands called Pulau Ubin is just a pleasant 15 minute bum boat ride away. It’s the ride itself that makes me happy and it only cost $5 Singapore dollars (to and fro). You can take the boat from Changi Point Ferry Terminal which is in the eastern part of Singapore. I love the chopping waters and salty water spraying in my face as the boat skids over the waters. The island itself retains it’s kampung (malay village) like charm. You get a glimpse of what Singapore was like in the 1960’s before our rapid urban development. There are mangrove swamps to explore as well. There are trees and shrubs that grow in the saline coastal waters. It’s fascinating to see the roots protruding out the sand and water.
