#19. Old Charming Raffles Hotel

I wish there were more majestic old buildings around. I am all for conservation although I do realize that our country is tiny so that becomes harder. Old buildings with character give me good reason to be happy in Singapore. I do love hanging out at the Raffles Hotel for tea and I’ll recommend it to any one of travels here.

Even Michael Jackson stayed here in the 90’s when he was on tour in Singapore. I wish they hadn’t slowed down the video. Makes it a bit odd. And darn, how could I have missed Michael.

Oh I LOVE all our colonial buildings!!!! I wish we still had more around. I look at all the old pictures and old postcards and I wish I could have been there to see it in person! The other day, I saw on Okto some full colour video shots of singapore in the 50s and 60s. It was amazing!

I love Michael Jackson too. Went to both his concerts! Where were you?

I didn’t realize how affected I would be when he died. It was such a shock to the system. Every time a special on him came on TV I was affected. His daughter Paris speaking at the funeral brought me to tears. Glad to meet another fan. I was probably at Uni if it was the early 90’s. One of my favorite songs is the Jackson 5’s ‘I Want you Back’ and I have always been moved by ‘Man in the Mirror’. Lately it’s been ‘They Don’t Really Care About Us’ which was not really a hit.

It’s a pity about Singapore being so small and having to do away with buildings with so much character.
