It’s a pleasure to go somewhere where you get very polite and welcoming service. I was craving for sushi and had the tuna mayonnaise one wrapped in sweet inari (bean curd skin dipped in sweet Japanese soy sauce). I always dip the sushi in wasabi (very hot green horse-radish) and soy sauce. Too much and the sensation is like something exploding up your nasal cavity into your brain. Pretty amazing. I recommend you try it.

I also like udon (thick spongy wheat flour noodle in light broth) and it’s great that they sell half portions.

This outlet is at a location in the north-east and tourists are not brought to neighbourhood malls like this. This is one of the places where you can get a glimpse of how most Singaporeans live, if you’re curious. Groceries here are much cheaper than what you would find at swanky Orchard road which is usually where tourists are brought to shop.

2 Green Teas – $2
1 plate tuna sushi – $3.90
half-size udon – $4.50
Total cost of the meal with taxes – $12.20 Singapore dollars

I like Ichiban Sushi. I find that it serves one of the cheapest sushis in town. Their bento sets are also very affordable. I always have the Business Wazen set which gets me grilled mackerel, some sashimi, some tempura, chawan mushi, miso soup, rice and fruit slices for only $15.90.

The Business set sounds like a great deal.
