Arbite

I was wondering how to pronounce the word and it seems I got it right. The website of this new Cafe, located opposite the bus terminal at Serangoon Gardens, says this:

Arbite [ahr-bahyt]

A pun on the German/Danish word for work (arbeit/arbejde). Inspired by Europe but rooted in Singapore. An intrinsic honesty to the word…

The font used reminded me of the ones used at Ikea. Being a fan of all things Ikea, I instantly liked it.

Their lego walls were adorable. A great way to add colour to a white wall.

The restaurant is one flight up. The store at the ground level is the Guardian Pharmacy.

I love how the cute menus with clips in primary colors, were displayed.

I decided on the Shepard’s pie from the set menu offered Tuesday to Fridays, which came with an onion soup and a iced tea.

The setting in here reminds me of white and blonde woods of Nordic interior design. I just love the whole concept and the furniture looks like it came from Ikea which is one of my favorite places for stylish furniture that’s affordable.

There’s even a cosy seating area for groups who come here for tea. I just love how the natural light floods in, yet the air-conditioning is strong enough so that it’s cool and nice. I’ve been to places where the air-conditioning is not cool enough to combat the heat from the sun and the whole place just feels too warm and not so comfortable, but luckily they got it right here.

The girl who served us was so polite and accommodating, but not intrusive. When service is this good I am sure to return.

I feel sorry to admit the cappuccino was not to my taste as it was pretty weak. I like the espresso base of my coffee to be stronger.

The Ice tea on the other hand was perfect. I could tell it was freshly made and I liked the added touch of the piece of green lime in it.

The onion soup was nice with generous amounts of onion in it. I usually prefer creamier soups like mushroom or pumpkin but this was the soup of the day.

The Shepard’s pie came with a lovely green salad. The potato portion was really fluffy and lovely. The lamb I found a bit too strong, but then again I am not a very good judge of this meat because I hardly eat lamb.

My sister raved about the grilled chicken sandwich with caramelized onions and melted provolone cheese.

The quality of the vegetarian pasta itself was just average compared to the more substantial ones I’ve had at places like Pasta Fresca. But I must say the portions were super generous for all the items. You would probably be better off sharing one dish with someone else and saving room for dessert. We were too full, but I am eager to try the chocolate cake the next time I’m here. I was disappointed I couldn’t try the Arbite all day breakfast which is only available on weekends.

Thanks for blogging about this place. Sounds cool, can’t wait to try! The burger and the pasta looks good, as well as the mushroom soup i saw on their website!
Their all day breakfast sounds quite substantial too for that price.

yeah the breakfast sounds so tempting especially with that reasonable price tag…..eggs bacon sausages and fluffy pancakes…..yum 🙂 I used to love the pancakes at Denny’s but that’s been closed for about 10 years.

Never tried Denny’s in Singapore before, but the USA one was really good. Reasonably priced for a huge portion. I think Singapore is ready to accept denny type restaurants again. I want Waffle House and IHOP!
