I love the giant nutmeg sculpture which fits right into the curvy architecture of ION. I just love feminine curves in Singapore’s mall architecture these days and all the urban public art. I think art adds a vibrancy to the city and many tourists as well as locals love to pose beside it.
The talented artist who created the Nutmeg sculpture, is an Indian Singaporean who was born in Malaysia in 1953. She received her masters in Fine Arts from the Royal Melbourne Institute of Technology (RMIT). Kumari Nahappan created the 2 tonne artwork in remembrance of Orchard Road’s history as a nutmeg plantation.
I took more shots of the external facade of ION. I adore the architectural curves and that red giant curvy benches I never noticed before.
I used to think that was a sculpture of a mangostein 😛
yeah me too! i didn’t know what a nutmeg looked like. I was only familiar with nutmeg snacks that we buy from Malaysia.
