The Wright Store that Reminded Me of the Beauty of Gifting

“I’m sorry, you’re not allowed to take pictures.” Well, at least the guy running the new store at ION was really polite about it. I was glad he didn’t ask me to delete what I had taken. Often it’s not what you say, but how you say it and this guy delivered the not so palatable information with courtesy. I have been told off very rudely and it completely puts me off the store (like in front of the Marina Sands Casino where a thuggish fellow just pointed and yelled no very aggressively). I was infuriated not by the message but, the utter rudeness. In this case I want to thank the guy for being polite.

But, unfortunately I am not thankful enough not to post these photos. Anyway isn’t it a form of marketing that’s absolutely free? I thought the things sold here were unique and head turning and anyone, male or female, would love to have these in their office or study.

Anyway I just checked the web and there’s actually a Facebook page for the store that invites photos by guests. Now I don’t feel so guilty.

I loved the write-up on the store’s website because I was just telling my mum that the true meaning of gifting has been lost. These days many people ask the receiver to request for the gift that they want, and it’s no longer a surprise or well thought out as it was in the past. I think a gift shows how well you know the person and the element of surprise is also the wonderful thing about presents in the old days. I also loved the birthday cards that we used to send and receive in the mail. That was a beautiful ritual that has now been sadly lost to Facebook or email greetings:

The Taj Mahal was a symbol of a king’s undying love for his wife.

Indeed, every gift tells a story that relates a journey of self-discovery and intimate bonding
between the giver and the recipient.

The Wright Gift relives a bygone era when gifting was romantic and thoughtful.

The Romance of Gifting has finally returned.

I love the stuff at this store, but it is all so expensive! Nowadays, people just want $$$ in the form of ang pows!

All the stuff are like in their hundreds or thousands…it’s like something as simple as a chess set costs a few hundred dollars…
