Tiny Feels Big on Page 34 of The Sunday Times

I am guilty of not reading The Straits Times (the local Singapore papers), getting my news fix from online headlines or blogs like Huffington Post or The New York Times instead. I also get a lot of my news from blogs, which are the most entertaining and free (in all sense of the word) form of information. Imagine my surprise when my mum tells me Tiny Island is in the newspapers.

Anyway it was just about 3 sentences that they extracted from my post I had inanely titled, I Can’t Believe My Eyes: Orchard Road is Flooded!.

I was brimming with excitement at first, having not seen the papers myself, but then I felt a bit of dread. Oh no! what have I gone and done now. And what about my careless typos that my blog is littered with – how embarrassing. Maybe they used my blog as an example of bad spelling and grammar and why traditional media is still superior to social media. That would be horribly embarrassing.

As I pulled out the papers to the right page I saw that my article appears under the Header of Censorship….Oops. Perhaps the authorities are not pleased with something I said and think casual bloggers like me need to be censored.

Thankfully it was just a few lines about the flood and I appear before a blogger with a much more enticing blog name – Spicy Mother. There was also a cute political cartoon on that page about the flood.

Yay!!! So happy for you 🙂

  2. 365days2play says:

Congrats!!!! Did you get more traffic today?

    • bookjunkie says:

i thought I would too (so greedy of me..heheheh), but ironically it has plunged dramatically since last week when I posted about the more controversial topic about the pastor and his wife. I think people are interested in controversy….especially people living in Singapore. It was part of my experiment, but to tell you the truth the obscure things I really like to write about have the least traffic..sob!!

    • bookjunkie says:

Hey 365 🙂 I just realized I can check the traffic for individual posts…duh!..i’m so silly

this is my traffic since i posted about the flood on Jun 16

      Jun16: 175
      Jun17: 190
      Jun18: 25
      Jun19: 16

Today I have 14 views so far 🙂 I am quite fascinated by how much I can scroll into the info for the WordPress Stats and I like that it doesn’t count my own visits.

Hey congrats on the press! If it makes you feel any better, I don’t think your traffic counter will show you stats on people who use google reader to check your blog..

    Happy blogging!

Thanks a million Kiersten!! I think it’s because I didn’t really write anything controversial so it was safe enough to print.

It would be super cool to be featured in 8 Days or the IS Magazine, those are the 2 local publications i like and close to my price range – $2 and free!

      • kierstens says:

Oo I’ll have to check those publications out – I’ve never heard of them! I only see MyPaper on the MRT sometimes..

        • bookjunkie says:

8 days is $2 and i like it’s food and living sections. I don’t watch local tv so the tv section i kinda ignore. The IS magazine is free and I usually find it at Cafes and sandwich places. It’s like a huge colorful newspaper filled with dining options and loads of ads too because its free.
