I thought the owner at Cafe Epicurious looked very familiar. At first I wondered if she could be an ex-colleague. I went home and checked out the official website. From my snooping I gathered that the nice lady who welcomed and served us so warmly was Sharon a former lawyer, turned actress, turned restaurateur. Rarely do I find such lovely service and the place did not turn out to be ‘atas’ (Singlish for snooty) at all, which is what I was expecting at first. The website revealed this laid back casual attitude which totally appeals to me:
Ours is the kind of place you can come to in shorts and flip-flops (Sharon owns almost every style of Havaiiana out there!).
I think this is one of the best brunches I have had. I loved the hard toast with the marmalade and jam (Sharon allowed me to mix and match my items). The bacon was savoury salty and it was so darn good. The baked potatoes were super yummy too. Proof of the pudding is that I finished every morsel on my plate. My partner finished every bit of his full monty set brunch too. His set included orange juice and tea. The orange juice was not to my liking but B liked it.
I actually would have loved more of the hard bread with the heavenly marmalade. I haven’t had marmalade in quite a while and I really should get a jar for home.
To be honest, the presentation of the food looked much prettier at Rider’s Cafe, but I seriously need air-conditioning in our humid weather. Yesterday’s weather was unusually great but most days leave you feeling sticky and in discomfort if there is no air-conditioning.
The cost of the total meal came to $41.75 (prices below in Singapore dollars)

My photos are very blurry as usual, because I try to switch off the flash and not attract any attention. I want to be unseen so that I can give unbiased reviews. Also I think most places don’t like you taking photos in case you’re a food spy or something?

Wow so this is what the branch at Rail Mall looks like. The seating area definitely looks better than the Robertson Quay one. It’s great you managed to get good service here. I wonder why the discrepancy at Robertson Quay. The service was quite shocking.
Btw regarding the flash issue, perhaps you can try increasing the ISO or increasing the shutter speed? I hardly ever use flash too, cuz I find it adds a weird colour.
I read some really awful reviews about the other branch being snooty, although I have never been there.

Way to go with the undercover investigative food reporting journalism from Singapore. Your fans across the pond appreciate it. I even went as far as to convert into US$ and Euro to get a handle on how much that would be here in Italy.
First of all, no ‘American’ breakfasts here in Italy, just brioche and cappuccinos! So that looks really inviting. The price seemed spot on compared to what we spent in the US however. I brought my boys to Denny’s and IHOP because I enjoyed the orchestrating of everyone’s desires all at the same serving moment. They were fast. Here, I often cook pancakes and eggs, but having service is awesome.
I think a cappuccino here will set you back only about 3 Singapore dollars. Well, thanks for providing such up to date information. I truly appreciate it.

I love a good ol’ American breakfast…esp if pancakes are included as well!! yumm 🙂 I love Denny’s…used to be in Singapore but sadly they closed operations some years ago. & boy would I be excited if IHOP opened here…heard so much about it!
I thought the breakfast was pretty expensive. thanks for letting me know the prices so that I can compare and get a better idea of the cost of living.
