My Aunt Bakes: National Day Cake and Sugee Cake

My Aunt is such a wonderful baker. Well, she’s actually a teacher by profession but her true love is cooking and baking. She doesn’t sell her cakes or anything but does it  with love for her family, and always surprises us with her creations.  Her latest cakes were a Vegan National Day Butter Cake for a charity event at a temple, and a Sugee Cake for the family. I really liked her decorations for the National Day Cake and was very proud of her efforts as she is completely a self taught baker.

She told me the Sugee Cake has Ceylonese origins and was a recipe of the Burgher people, a Ceylonese Eurasian ethnic group. It’s made with the main ingredients of butter, semolina and almonds and hence a wholesome, nutty, flavour.
