Laurent Bernard Chocolatier: Best Hot Chocolate in Singapore

Had the best hot chocolate in Singapore at Laurent Bernard Chocolatier which is at the sleepy Robertson Quay, a place I quite like. You can tell that the French Owner, Laurent Bernard, has a true passion for chocolate and I’m glad he decided to set up shop in Singapore. After being disappointed by the watery iced chocolate at Max Brenner, this was a real treat. For a fairer comparison I should also try the hot chocolate at Max Brenner one day.

The hot chocolate is S$8 here, but the portion is generous and can be shared by two people. Basically the little jug fills 2 cups. The hot chocolate tastes like real chocolate that’s been melted with fresh boiled milk added. It’s thick and the real stuff if you’ve been craving a cup. It also tasted more like chocolate than milk which is what makes it so divine. The chocolate cookie that came with the hot chocolate was exquisite. I wish I could have had a couple more.

We also tried a scoop of the home-made caramel ice cream (S$4.50), but it was a tad too sweet for us. It is the high quality stuff though. I know because of the way it tasted and it also melted pretty fast which is a sign of real ice-cream. I should have gone for chocolate ice cream instead as this cafe specializes in chocolate, but after the drink it was just too much chocolate. Can’t believe I just said too much chocolate! I take it back.

The decor here is pretty, but it gets a bit too crowded and you feel quite crammed in here. There are seats on the outside too, but you would melt in the heat. It’s been really hot in Singapore lately.  It’s great that they give you iced water with a tinge of lemon in it.  I noticed that they also have souffle and macarons here. The owner has another branch at 5B Portsdown Road which I haven’t yet been to.

You know what, I think Laurent Bernard’s hot chocolate is even better than what I had in Paris! To me it was worth the 8 bucks. Just skip lunch. It can be part of an orgasmic diet!

MmmmmmmmmMMMMmm!!!!! The cafe looks really pretty. The few times I passed by it I really wanted to stop to have a cuppa…

Oh I like the iced chocolate at Max Brenners. Don’t know if it is the same drink but the one I had had like a metal straw in a tall metal glass. It was super chocolatey.

maybe the girls who prepared it at the Max Brenner at VivoCity added too much milk and ice and not enough chocolate. The colour was very pale too. I have had good hot chocolate at Max Brenner years ago when it first opened at The Esplanade so I hope to give the place another shot.
