Why I Will Never Dine Here Again

I took some photos so you know the place I’m talking about. Nara, a new Japanese restaurant in Serangoon Gardens is a place I won’t be revisiting. Maybe it was just my one bad experience. In all fairness, maybe you’ve been here and liked it. If you have I would love to hear about it. If your experience has been similar to mine it would be interesting to hear about it too, just so that I don’t feel like I have been totally biased in some way.

The good:

The meal was very healthy and the braised pork and ramen broth were ok.
The seats were cushy and comfortable and the place has an upmarket feel about it.
The decor outside was cute and inviting.

The bad:

The waiter hard selling you the more expensive items on the menu even after you have selected the items you want (there was a whole lot of hard selling going on). He was trying to be polite, but came off sounding very rude. It was a case of unintentional rudeness, which you sadly experience often in Singapore.  I am sorry to say that the best service I have had has been mostly from wait staff from the Philippines or even once from Nepal.

The sushi was dry and a cheaper item we wanted was on the menu, but we were told that it was not available

The ugly:

Finding out you were charged $4 (more due to tax) for an item (basically raw cut up vegetables, mashed potato and a sweet sauce) you didn’t order but which they placed on the table saying it’s the house salad giving you the impression that it was on the house.
