After my dalliance at Paper Market, I did not expect another new stationary store at such close proximity. The place is oddly called nbc and I have no idea what it stands for. It’s certainly not affiliated to the television network. That I’m sure. I just checked and it’s a Japanese stationary and gift chain store with many branches in Singapore. I feel so swakoo (Singlish for someone not hip and not in touch with the latest trends) to have only just spotted this place for the first time. Anyway I googled and found out that the real name of this chain is Maido Stationary and Gifts in the USA and started as NBC inc. in 1963 in Tokyo. It first expanded to the Kinokuniya store in San Francisco in 1988. Oh so many I have some across them at the Kinokuniya stationary section already, but now they have a standalone store.
A Rilakkuma display in the window – the store has won me over already.
Very Japanese and kwaii on the inside. I like.
Cute! Miyazaki’s Totoro characters. His work is so delightful and I could watch those animations over and over. They seem to transcend beyond the usual kiddie
animation into an art form of it’s own.I need that mood indicator – for when I feel Cantankerous. Scratch that – because it’s hardly ever. Because I just loathe arguments, disputes and confrontations. If there’s a mood indicator for perpetually guilt ridden and highly insecure – that would be me.
I love that plastic cup that looks like glass and with that sweet baby blue rubber cover with the rosette on top. One of those things I would have impulsed bought in the past, but these days I don’t.
I crave new journals all the time and these magnetic ones (cover closes securely with a magnet inside) are so gorgeous.
Moleskins are my ultimate indulgence these days. My eyes glaze over when I spot these. And those new ones in shades of pink and lilac and so enticing, but sometimes you just need them in simple classic black or striking red.
This is what I mean by stationary bliss. If you’re a blogger and love journalling or writing the traditional way as well, I am sure you’ve been there.
What’s cuter than a puppy. A Berry Puppy of course. The Japanese do come up with the most adorable things.
They’ve cornered the market on cute with Rilakkuma, your friendly relax bear. I feel my stress melting away already.
2011 calendars. So many pretty and charming ones. I just can’t choose.
Ya it’s been around quite a while. They have one at Bugis Junction 3rd floor for the last 10 years…hehehe.
I am super swakoo 😉 the only Japanese stationary stores I knew of were the ones within Kino.
I love moleskins too — I always keep one of the tiny ones (in hot pink) in my bag for those moments when inspiration strikes and I’m away from my computer. Those magnetic journals are flat-out gorgeous, but whenever I buy something like that I never end up writing in it. It’s too pretty to be messed up with my bad handwriting!
I always start on the first page with great penmanship and then after a couple of pages on a day I need to write furiously into it…the writing is just atrocious….like chicken scratches.
