Singapore’s Newest Mall: Braving the Human Crush at Nex (Part 2 of 5)

I wonder when we dropped certain British words in favour of American ones. I noticed that among the locals I know, we now use the word mall instead of shopping centre. My spelling remains British as this was the system I was schooled in, although spell check often converts it to American spelling for me. Anyway I digress – back to the human jam.

From the picture it may not look bad, but at the walking path outside the shops, it was impossible to walk without someone bumping into you. It as also impossible to take photos without people zipping by.

Just look at the queue outside Dian Xiao Er, a Chinese casual dining restaurant.

I couldn’t resist taking pictures of the neon ceiling that changed colours, although my companion was getting a headache.

The Apple reseller was one of the not as crowded shops. I guess only so many people can play on the sample ipods and imacs. I wonder why we don’t have an official Apple store. Now that would be cool and a big hit for largely techie Singaporeans, most of whom own 2 phones – one that’s given by the office and one for their personal use.

Tea Dot is now open, but again, no chance of a seat. The Starbucks next to it was fully packed as well.

Swiss Bake was open too. It is a new concept and it comes with a little cafe beside it. There were selling Christmas Stollens, something I’ve never heard of before. My companion explained that it’s in between cake and bread.

Loved the red and the wooden floors. The design is definitely warm and inviting and so Chrismassy.

The NTUC Xtra Supermarket was open too. It was actually quite spacious inside with an electronics section like the one at Ang Mo Kio Hub.

Popular Store’s open too. I don’t really fancy this bookstore because among the new arrivals nothing grabs my attention. In contrast, at Kinokuniya the books selected for display, always draw me in. To be fair, Popular caters more to students and parents, selling all kinds of assessment and guide books, plus stationary.
