Hokkaido’s Freshness Burger in Singapore: My 2nd Visit to the Only Outlet at Nex Serangoon

I was expecting a queue at Freshness Burger today, but there was none, which made me not regret coming all the way. This time we tried the Fish Burger. I was sad to say that it disappointed me. The teriyaki chicken burger I had on my first visit was so much better. Why? The bun was softer and not as dried out, and I didn’t quite care for the egg with mayonnaise topping. For fish burgers I would stick to McDonald’s which is about a dollar cheaper too. My companion didn’t enjoy the burger too much either and may try a vegeburger the next time. I guess it’s just a personal preference thing. I’d be interested to know what you think of it if you happen to go there and try it. The next time I might try the spam burger – it sounds interesting and unique.

I ordered the fried potato again (grown and imported from Freshness Burger’s very own farm in Hokkaido) and they were great. I like that a thin layer of the potato skin is left on.

We also tried both the hot and iced cocoa today. They were both so good especially with the fresh whipped cream topping. We ordered the smallest size (short) and that’s like just half a portion. I would order the larger size next time.

A basic meal comes to at least S$11 per person. If you’re thinking of this place as Fast Food then it’s expensive, but if you think of it as a Cafe, which I think it sort of is, then it’s not. There are servers here who deliver your orders to you and clear your tables for you. The decor is also much cleaner and nicer than fast food restaurants. I was disappointed by my choice of burger today, but I still really like this place. The servers are all so polite and friendly with the Japanese custom of calling out “welcome” as you come in.

Freshness Burger is easy to miss as it’s tucked away at basement two, opposite Cold Storage and Barcelos. You need to climb up a short flight of stairs near the yoghurt joint Glacious. You can read about my first visit when I had a much yummier, Teriyaki Chicken burger.
