Doesn’t Feel like Christmas

Sigh….no singer’s voice today can match the beauty of Karen’s Carpenter’s alto tone….

It stopped feeling like truly Christmas when I lost my father, so this song reminds me of him. I am not feeling particularly depressed, because B cheered me up today, but Christmas in particular always reminds me of him (he was my Santa Claus after all, whether I was 5 or 25, whether it was Christmas or just any other day). it was not about presents – he just embodied the spirit of the season for me. Just hoping against hope that I get to see him again one day, with this line ringing true, “In my dreams, I’m Christmassing with you…”

This reminds me of a childhood flashback. When I was about four or five, (because we officially didn’t celebrate Christmas, although my dad got us presents) I used to secretly hang (more like place beside my pillow) my ‘stocking’ before I went to bed on Christmas Eve. I was a bit forlorn to discover it was not filled the next day. The thing is I didn’t tell anyone about it besides my sister who I think did the same. I thought maybe my stocking was not the real one. It was a normal tiny old white sock and I figured maybe it wasn’t big enough to hold anything. It didn’t looks like the real red and green felt stockings I saw on TV. Anyway my sadness soon turned to joy when I got presents and we went out to my cousin’s house and got to see the beautiful sparkly tree and had Christmas Fruit Cake and other goodies to take home. I think I really loved the rum spiced cake and must have got tipsy on it.

Sorry to make anyone feel down. I hope you all have a wonderful Merry Christmas with your loved ones. This song will get your spirits up for sure. Show Choir and Christmas songs – could there be anything better than the Glee treatment?

thank you!!! I Love Coldplay. Started off bleak…..but then the chorus is so beautiful and uplifting 🙂 I think that’s what I love about their music. I was curious about the full lyrics….pasting them here:

      Christmas Lights

      Christmas night, another fight
      Tears we cried a flood
Got all kinds of poison in
      Poison in my blood

      I took my feet
      To Oxford Street
      Trying to right a wrong
      Just walk away
      Those windows say
      But I can’t believe she’s gone

When you’re still waiting for the snow to fall
Doesn’t really feel like Christmas at all

Up above candles on air flicker
Oh they flicker and they float
But I’m up here holding on
To all those chandeliers of hope

      Like some drunken Elvis singing
I go singing out of tune
Saying how I always loved you darling
      And I always will

Oh when you’re still waiting for the snow to fall
Doesn’t really feel like Christmas at all

Still waiting for the snow to fall
It doesn’t really feel like Christmas at all

      Those Christmas lights
      Light up the street
Down where the sea and city meet
May all your troubles soon be gone
Oh Christmas lights keep shining on

      Those Christmas lights
      Light up the street
Maybe they’ll bring her back to me
Then all my troubles will be gone
Oh Christmas lights keep shining on

      Oh Christmas lights
      Light up the street
Light up the fireworks in me
May all your troubles soon be gone
Those Christmas lights keep shining on

I thought it kinda reflected what you were talking about in this post but there is always a silver lining somewhere you just need to find it 🙂

I understand, on a lesser level, what you’re going through. My father-in-law passed away in April, his aunt was just admitted to the hospital yesterday, because her oxygen saturation was only at 50% (should be 92%)’ and my family always loses someone right around Christmas. Getting into the same holiday cheer as everyone else seems nearly impossible sometimes. Oh well… Check out Jeremiah, Chapter 10, if you begin to feel down about feeling this way during the Christmas season…

Thanks Jessica 🙂 I hope your loved one makes a speedy recovery. It’s so sad and incredibly taxing when our loved ones are in hospital. Wishing you the best.
