A New 13th Star Sign: Yikes! It May Mean You’re Not Who You Thought You Were

There’s a new 13th sign in the zodiac that is making everything go haywire. It’s a sign between Scorpio and Sagittarius which has a name I can’t even pronounce – Ophiuchus. I don’t quite understand it all, but it is fascinating. I read about this at the Resident Princess’s Blog. Anyway I feel like this blogger Barbara right now. I think I need therapy too.

…the moon’s gravitational pull has made the Earth shift on its axis and created a one-month shift in the stars’ alignment. Astronomers are now proposing to move all the star signs back one month and introduce a 13th star sign, Ophiuchus, to help readjust the zodiac calendar.

The change will come as a shock to many who will discover they have been reading the wrong star sign their entire lives – and will not necessarily be happy with their new ones.

Those under dominant and creative Leo could now find themselves a Cancer, which means they are moody and sensitive.

A passionate Scorpio could become a more diplomatic and balanced Libra whilst if you were a Taurus, you could now find yourself a stubborn Aires.

Those born under Ophiuchus are said to have lofty ideals, enjoy longevity and are inventive. Those who are currently Scorpio or Saggitarius could make the switch.

The story has sparked controversy and debate around the world and instantly became the most popular topic of conversation on microblogging site Twitter, where some users were aghast at the change in their fortunes.

One woman summed up the feeling of many when she wrote: ‘I am now a Cancer. I went from being the top of the zodiac..Leo the courageous lion – to a crab!’

Can you imagine if you have a tattoo of your star sign and it’s now different? But BBC News tells you to be rest assured as there are two types of astrology and you’re only affected if you follow the Vedic type.

They point out that this precession only affects “sidereal” astrology, a system commonly used in India and by other people with an interest in “Vedic” astrology. In this system signs do shift.

“People might be Aquarian under the tropical system but a Capricorn under the Vedic system,” says astrologer Russell Grant.

But in the “tropical zodiac”, the system used by Western astrologers, there are fixed sectors of the sky through which the movement of the sun, moon and planets is tracked to create the basis for horoscopes.

“The tropical zodiac is fixed and immovable. It is static – whatever happens to the Earth’s axis.”

This post made me think about self fulfilling prophesies and how you are what you think you are. Having identified your whole life with something and having that taken away can be a bit unsettling no matter how not superstitious you are. I guess that’s why this topic has been causing so much hullabaloo on the interweb and social media.

I am still a cancer. So no change for me. I did enjoy how you mentioned all those fanatics with tattoos on their bodies. =)

Some reports say that it’s hogwash and we’re not affected by I tend to go with the camp that we are. I just realized that when we identify so much with something our whole lives it kinda sticks.
