Joy Dried Mangoes

Dried mango is a sinful snack that I like to indulge it. Thought I’d blog about it, as it’s probably hard to get outside of Asia. I like the Joy brand in particular. My friend E introduced me to this snack when we were in University and I was hooked. Mangoes from the Philippines are the best that I’ve ever had. We used to get the fresh mangoes in the 70’s, but I hardly see them in the supermarkets anymore. They were orange, fat and juicy and the rind did not get stuck in your teeth. They were sweet to perfection and the best way to eat them was messily with juice dripping down your chin. I now contend with the dried ones which cost about S$5 a packet.

They’re actually relatively easy to find in the US. Can’t speak for other countries, though.

They really are everywhere in the US. However, I can’t find any of the pickled mangoes, which I have been craving for a couple years since my mom brought some back from her last trip to the Philippines. They are packaged just like dried mangoes in the plastic airtight bags, but when you take them out they are damp from being pickled. It is delicious.

If E’s grandparents weren’t Indian (and got her totally obsessed with Mangoes) I don’t know if I would’ve known. But they did, and after Mango season passed, we had to find her a new outlet for her addiction.

I hate to nitpick since I am rarely free of spelling/grammar errors, but since this is an actual article, I am irked that they refer to your site as “TonyIsland.” Had I been the writer, I would have at least gone back to recheck the names since I know spell check won’t catch those. Regardless of the typo, I am glad your blog is getting more attention than it does already 🙂
