Curry Rice at the Maxwell Road Food Centre

High up on the branch I thought they looked like rambutans, but a close-up shot shows that they are not hairy. So what are these?

Spotted the palm tree near the entrance of the Maxwell Road Food Centre.

Just across the road from the famous hawker centre is a Buddhist Temple tourists were flocking towards armed with cameras. It’s the Buddha Tooth Relic Temple. I didn’t realize that it was a museum as well.

There were long queues at the chicken rice stall and even a Japanese crew filming, but I am not a fan of chicken rice and much prefer curry rice. And yeah, I know this is akin to blasphemy in Singapore.

It may not look like much, but I really love this authentic Hainanese Curry Rice.

The Goreng Pisang (fried bananas) were tempting me but I was way too full by then.

I find my favourite old stalls are mostly gone, hence hardly come by Maxwell hawker centre. I’ll check out that Hainanese Curry Rice next time.
That temple opposite is a Buddhist temple, did you go in to check out? There is a roof top garden, and a hall in the mid level where you can go and meditate.

You’ve mentioned curry rice a couple times, and now I am suddenly feeling the urge to try it. But I don’t think I can find it where I live! Anyway, I will try to look up recipes online. Thanks for the food pics in your posts! They always inspire me to seek out good food instead of settling for whatever is close by (and aren’t good at all). It’s just ridiculous how difficult it is to find reasonably priced good food. That reminds me I went to Nobu, which is too expensive for me to go back, but the food there was great! It might sound weird and creepy but I do fleetingly think of you every time I find delicious food. 🙂

that’s not creepy…it’s sweet actually 🙂 I feel flattered that I can inspire you not to waste calories 😉

Heard so much about Nobu…that’s where all the celebs and paparazzi go? did you spot anyone famous when you were there?

It’s not much as wasting calories as increasing my standards of food actually tasting good. For instance today I got a spicy beef noodle thinking it would look like the plastic container of half pho and half niu rou mian. Turns out they just used the broccoli and beef entree that was already sitting there (like panda express cafeteria style) and just put it into heated broth. I tried my best to eat it, but it tasted like just that: broccoli and beef added into chicken broth. Kind of disgusting since the oil used to make the entrees also ended up in the already oily soup. You can tell I was traumatized a bit. That restaurant has been there forever. This was the first time I tried it since I didn’t want to help anymore franchises. I don’t know how it survives.

I’ve never heard about Nobu until my friend asked me to go with her to a networking event to meet her friends! I didn’t want to go since I had just finished work (close by), but my cousins made a huge deal about it. I only agreed to go because of the extended happy hour prices. I didn’t see anyone famous there, but it was probably because of the event there wasn’t much seating. The wait was about an hour minimum for regular seating and dining.

I am quite spoilt and if there is a queue at a restaurant I chose some other place. I take it for granted as I have so many choices here. It’s so easy to become the glutton that I am 😉
