Singapore’s National Treasure: Kumar

I just love Kumar. He may not be politically correct (his jokes are every -ist you can think of), but somehow he’s the only comedian in Singapore who really cracks me up.  Some of them may even be directed at me, but I still find them funny and not offensive.  I don’t know how he does it. And I just love the little digs he gets in and his social commentary through humour – genious.

He looks more elegant than I ever would, in a sari or gown. I especially love his humour about Indian mothers and their melodrama. So much like what you see in a Tamil movie. Just spot on and he should know as he’s appeared on the Singapore Tamil TV channel, Vasantham as well.  More subdued though and not as funny as when he does his live shows, which are for adults only.

I once attended a concert at the Boom Boom room in Bugis during the 90’s, with my cousins and aunt. My aunt found his jokes quite crude and too raunchy for her taste, but the rest of us just loved it.

Here’s an older raunchier show he did at a club.

Russell Peters also has that effect on me, except he’s not as raunchy.

I think it’s because you can clearly see that the jokes do not come from with a mean or malicious intent, and it’s all in good fun. It’s hilarious!

Oh yes, I love Russell Peters too. Watched his show some years back as well.

I loved Russell Peters too! Until he started expanding his jokes from the typical ethnic jokes into deaf children jokes and got kind of offended that no one else thought it was that funny either. It was just the most weird, awkward moment I’ve ever seen televised. I’m surprised they didn’t edit it out. Anyway, I still love the core of his stuff.
