Singapore Food Trail at the Singapore Flyer Part 2 of 2

I took just so many photos that I had to split this post up.

Adored the local drinks in glass bottles. I remember the bottles being huge in the old days, or was it because my hand were little.

I would have liked to try the satay, but I was afraid we would have to wait for quite a while and the crowd was growing.  Am not so much a fan of Nasi Lemak, but my family might love this.

There was definitely a lot of reusing of old tins like the Milo tin you see hanging at the stall. My mum used to keep old Horlicks (malt drink imported from England) glass bottles to keep her biscuits, sugar, curry powder and such.

The pork noodles were prepared by a young man and I found it tasty. I liked the strong spicy vinegar taste.

I don’t eat oyster omelettes, but my cousins P and A love this.

I wouldn’t say the food is really the best here as they are not prepared by the original hawkers.  I would say it’s above average going by what I tried, but not as good as what you would find at our old hawkers centres like those at Airport Road or Maxwell Road.

Growing up in the Philippines and Indonesia, my family traveled to Hong Kong and Singapore a lot (shopping in both places is outstanding) but I miss the car park in Singapore that would turn into an outdoor food court with all the carts selling foods like Bakme Goreng/siao paw/ramen, etc. I understand that it hasn’t been around for a while, what with price of land being what it is (not to mention health reasons); however, I miss the charm of that place (and the great food!).

I don’t remember this, but it brings back fond memories for my mum. I just do recall certain items we had in the home like huge Horlick tins and glass bottles of Sari and Cherry. Was so good to grab a chilled bottle from the fridge. It was usually a special treat.

Have to agree with you, the food is not the best in Singapore, but I like the concept very much! Feel like I’ve gone back to a different time.

😉 I guess because you’re much younger than me you feel the difference more. To me it doesn’t seem like that long ago. Well at least the 70’s seems like just yesterday to me…my fave era.
