The Singapore Art Museum that used to be the former St Joseph’s Institution.
This was where the old MPH used to be. One of the very first bookstores in Singapore that was a treat to go to in the 70’s.
The Chijmes building at Victoria Street. The convent where my aunts studied now transformed into a fancy dining place.
Love the trees.
Especially those with the yellow tinged leaves and black bark. The contrast is stunning.
More of Chijmes
This this was the old fire station.
And this is the Stamp museum.
What’s the building in pic.3 called? I was walked along its corridor some time ago, and all the shops are closed, but they have some famous celebs/athletes handprints still hung on the pillars. 🙂 I wonder if the upgrade of the building will result in those handprints being removed….
I have to go check that out and update the post.
Thank you~~!!
The fire station is still in operation even though it looks like a relic! There is even a civil defence museum in there. You should go check it out. I meant to, but I never got down to doing it even though my office was so close!
I really feel happy when they preserve old grand places like the fire station. DIdn’t know it was operational.
Wow, cool pictures, bookjunkie. Have you been inside the Singapore Art Museum yet? Anyway, keep it up
Thanks a million….I so want to visit the Art Museum too.
Wow, I thought Chijmes was a church and then saw that it has shops and bars! How cool!! I think I have been to Chijmes, but I am not sure… Last time I went to Singapore was in 2006. The photos are lovely as always!! Singapore looks so neat, clean and organized and it looks even more beautiful now I live in Jakarta. Jakarta has its own charm, but the city that is so close to Singapore can be so different!
I’ve only been inside once, for New Year’s Eve with my cousins and it was nice 🙂
If only they hadn’t used it for development, I could have studied in that pretty architecture 🙂 when it was used by CHIJ. Very very long history. It used to be an orphanage for people to drop off unwanted baby girls 🙁
Nice and clear photos by the way! I’m surprise it’s possible to take such clear photos in a moving vehicle! haha Or maybe my boyfriend drives too fast :/
Thanks 🙂 Yeah it’s a bit hard to take when the car is moving fast. The clearer ones are mostly from when the car slows down near a traffic light.
I had no idea it was an orphanage. I wonder what became of all those baby girls.
