I could have hung around this area all day. It was just so nice having a stroll here. Hmmm it seems these shophouses are for rent. Wouldn’t it be lovely to live or have an office here? The rental must be pretty high though.
Here you can see how the old kampong house sits next to the row of restored shophouses. Love the charm of the red roofs. So Singapore.
Traffic is pretty quiet around here. Joo Chiat is actually quite a huge area and this is just a small part of it.
Loving the unique carvings on this wooden door.
It’s a door in front of another door. I think in the past there were no worries about security as neighbours were around to protect you. Probably back then there was a very village like atmosphere. I am just guessing there was only the wooden swing door back then?
The wooden ceiling beams add a warmth to the design.
The colours are very attractive. It’s only when I take pictures like this that I realize just how clean our buildings and streets are. Almost perfection.
As you can see, some are companies or businesses that are housed here.
This is where the letters go. The brass covering is so elegant.
Someone lives here and they must be getting loads of junk mail or other people’s mail. The notice seems a good idea.
Love the old style patterned glass inserted into wooden frames. This was the style in the 60’s and 70’s.
A close-up of the wood carving design.
The row of shophouses is known as Lotus at Joo Chiat. Nice name.
Awesome pictures bookjunkie! 🙂 I loved the architecture of the place. I think I’ve seen this place before when I went to Singapore last year. Is this place near to Jalan Besar?
This place is in the Eastern part of Singapore…nearer East Coast I think. Thanks so much 🙂
