We all know that mascots are one of the greatest marketing tools around. But they have to be done right. They can’t be creepy.
When I was a kid in the 70’s and 80’s, I used to have a Singa courtesy lion T-shirt that I loved. I wore it through my grow spurt and even when it got too tight and faded. I even knew the courtesy song by heart. I think it was taught to us in school during music lessons and the melody was catchy. Or perhaps the jingle shown on TV? So this is one mascot I am quite fond of.
I only recently knew of the existence of Water Wally, the character which is a water droplet that fights for water conservation.
Recently, political parties like SDP has come up with Danny the Democracy Bear which is quite endearing as he reminds me of the adorable character from Japan – Rilakkuma. Who can resist a teddy bear?
I didn’t like the mascots for the Youth Olympics when I first heard about them, but when I saw them at the airport I thought that Merly (based on our Merlion) was actually quite cute and I couldn’t resist taking a photo.
They’re either water or lion (besides the democracy bear)! 😀 YOG mascots are too cute! Merly does look a lot like Merlion 🙂
oh yes….that’s quite true 🙂 I must look out for more to photograph.
