A good day out. As you can see, an overcast sky which means cooler than normal temperatures.
When we come here it’s usually in search of lunch. Joo Chiat is famous for it’s food.
Like this very famous dumpling store.
Nonya Chang. The Ba Chang (dumplings) here is tempting me. For me Nonya Dumplings can’t be beat, with their sweet savoury taste. And I love glutinous sticky rice. A bit messy to eat though as there is no place to sit here. Once we bought the dumplings and ate them at a nearby coffee-shop. They didn’t mind as we ordered other things as well. I guess it’s mostly for taking home.
Part of the charm is that there are not many high rise buildings or multi-storey car parks. You can park at one of the many public lots.
I have always loved this Ikea Red Moose Rocky Horse which you can buy at Ikea. Spotted it at one of the shops as we strolled by. I am not sure if Ikea still sells it though.
Was very impressed by this elderly man who was selling traditional coffee beans.
He also sold the various brooms, mops and cleaning utensils used for the past thirty years by Singaporeans because the hypermarts, Kao magiclean and vacuum cleaners came along. I just love the old style mosaic floor. What we used to have at home. Totally charming, but very hard to clean.
Remember to bring your parking coupons. Mostly low-rise buildings and public lots here.
My family raves about the Hokkien mee here. Me not so much, as I much prefer the ones at Chomp Chomp, Geylang and Old Airport Road.
It was interesting to spot a Gujarati school here at 225 Joo Chiat Road. Although Tamil is the official language in Singapore there are so many other Indian languages spoken as well, like Gujarati, Hindi, Punjabi, Malayaalam etc.
The lovely Black Earth restaurant. Never had a meal here before.
HK is getting hotter by the days, and a li’l bit humid. I was sweating as I scarf down a breakfast in McDonald’s this morning, and I started sleeping with A/C again…
A/C…best invention ever! HK is nice in autumn right? When is it really cool there?
I love the minced meat noodles just down the road from Kim Choo. I eat there A LOT.
I noticed a place that was super crowded…I must try next time 🙂
