Thankful for Every Blog Comment

Your blog comments are like sweet little notes that I treasure.  Over the past year the blog has been adorned with over 3000. I am just so thankful. Comments take time out of a busy day and that’s why they are appreciated even more.

Decided to do a little count as a tribute.  It’s also a trip down memory lane for me.

Love that my readers are mostly ladies and hope that Tiny Island will continue to be a safe place for the female voice.

Drumroll please….

365days2play, a shy blogger like myself. With a whopping 415 comments, 365days2play who had commented on nearly every one of my posts. Hugs and I always look to you for food recommendations!:

Best of luck! Things tend to get done faster if there is a deadline!

Kirsten Han : thanks for your support and 156 comments, with your first one way back in June 2010:

I definitely get what you mean! Blogging has helped me feel more involved and more part of Singapore, which has in turn make me feel much better about living in this country.

And food is awesome. Don’t ever stop eating. LOL

Sister Earth Organics left 155 lovely notes to me. I love how we were talking about the upcoming Royal Wedding way back in November and it’s now around the corner. Really shows how time flies. By the way she’s a nurse as well as a cancer survior – truly inspirational:

We are such suckers for the royal weddings aren’t we? I heard that the Queen herself requested that she call herself “Catherine” instead of Kate….already taking orders from the Queenie….

Julie, one of the first, who has commented since May 2010, when my blog went from Private to Public, with 99 comments. Thanks Julie, for being one of the very first to link me on your blogroll:

Yay! I’m the first one to respond. I love being able to be transported to the heart of Singapore in just a click! Thanks for keeping us updated. I’ve added you onto my blog roll, so hopefully you’ll see some new visitors. Well done!

Julie

Lovely Crystal from beautiful Boston, for 92 comments, some of which are very detailed and taught me quite a bit.  It’s no wonder – she taught History, a subject I am increasingly fascinated with.  She vlogs too.  Her first one was way back in July 2010:

Is he new? I’ve been to Vivo tons of times and just missed him…guess that proves it’s the biggest mall in Singapore.

I’m also a huge fan of ION, but that has more to do with the fact that I can walk from my apartment there in about twenty minutes (maybe 25 with a baby stroller).

I know Vivo is bigger, but with the 8 floors, ION always appears to be so. Wish I could afford to shop at most of the stores there, though–but you won’t see me in Prada anytime soon, although I may be the girl staring at the window drooling while the toddler tries to get my attention.

Another awesome Singaporean blogger J with 81 comments with this first one back in May when I first stared out. And of course we talk about Durians:

Wrap these babies up in newspaper and pop them into the fridge. That’s what my durian crazy mother does some times. Her rational; if you keep the fruit in a container, it may become watery. I simply love durians cold from the fridge. Move over Häagen-Dazs, I don’t care even you come up with durian favour!

Young expat Kierstens with 72 comments. Although I’ve felt worried for her at times, I’ve enjoyed her taxi uncle stories, so should I say taxi uncles who go a bit too far when they see a young blonde thing:

Hi Tiny Island, your short blog article about your opinion towards the issue of sexualising little girls not only shares my concerns but also you are absolutely right to say that parents who think it is acceptable to sexualise their daughters are not realising that they are actually damaging those girls. One of the perfect examples of sexualisation of girls are child beauty pageants and these unhealthy activities have been mentioned in an American television show called Toddlers and Tiaras. Here is an example of what this mother is doing to her own child in this snippet of Toddlers and Tiaras: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ORcBTC7TiVY

Sexualisation of girls is also considered as abuse, bad parenting and child endangerment all rolled into one lump. Sexualisation of girls is not just happening in Western societies but also it is catching up in modern Eastern societies too. Lastly, you are not a fuddy duddy for saying that kids needs to be kids. I agree that children need to be allowed to enjoy their childhoods as much as possible rather than be made to grow up fast. As a fellow blogger just like you, I have written about what I think about child beauty pageants in my blog and here it is: http://whatsaysyou.wordpress.com/2011/01/20/little-miss-freakshow-why-beauty-pageants-for-children-are-not-very-cute-at-all/

I am thrilled to have met Maria through her blog. Canadians are the best. She boosted my spirits with this comment back in July 2010 and left 47 more that were equally encouraging:

Reading your blog feels like coming home, even though Singapore was only my home for three years. Bless you for painting such a vivid “warts & all” picture of this beautiful country.

The lovely Lady J with 44 comments. I found her and then she found me in Dec 2010 and that’s what I love about the blogging community. Lady L, you make me want to go flower shopping and have given me a greater appreciation of fashion.  Looking forward to living vicariously through you as you live your new life in Switzerland:

Thank you so much for leaving me with such sweet comments!!!! Your post is very helpful. Isn’t it so true that looking inward and see what you are drawn to really guides you to see what needs to be done. If I make a list like yours, I think I will have many of yours in mine as well. I was nodding when I was reading! I am constantly drawn to blogs with beautiful images, too. It is true that some bloggers are very good about engaging reader to their content. There are as many blogs as the number of stars out there and everyday there are new blogs that are born. I feel intimidated sometimes, but I guess I have keep making efforts and do my best. Do you still live in Singapore? Singapore is a fascinating country!

And recent, but frequent commentor, AL from our lovely neighbouring Malaysia. She only found me last month, but has already left 24 lovely notes:

Hello! Al here. Meant to say this loooooong time ago… really enjoy seeing this list grows

I feel so bad, but I am sure I have left many wonderful readers out.  Wish I could get a widget that does this automatically.

Even if you have left just 1 comment, I appreciate it with all my heart. A blog is a lonely place without comments. I feel as excited as a kid in a candy store each time I see the comment box light up with new ones.  Please keep the candy coming.

  1. Ooooh! Love it! It’s like a big Tiny Island Love Fest and I took fifth. Congrats on your continued success. Now I want to comment every day. What a FANTASTIC idea for a post. Now I’m curious to check who are my best commenters are. I’m positive you are one of them.

Thanks for including me in the list! 🙂

    Julie

  2. I feel honored to be among your faithful blog readers. It has given me a perspective on Singapore that I never would have gotten by just reading a travel book. “Traveling to Singapore” has made it to the top 5 on my bucket list because of you!
I have also met some of your other readers whose blogs are some of my favorites (Kaho, whatsaysyou…)I will definitely check out the other bloggers mentioned in this post!

  3. Crystal says:

  4. btlau says:

Thank you so much for putting my name on there. I feel very honored, too. I’m with Sister Earth Organics. I’ve met some wonderful bloggers thanks to you. Sister Earth Organics, whatsaysyou, and LadyJ are the ones I have been able to connect and I think they are awesome. I will check out other blogs as well. This is such a great idea to post about your commenters, but it must have taken a long time to count!! Thank you also for finding me and leaving comments on my blog. It means a lot and your words are always very encouraging. I’m so happy to have met you from the country I consider as one of my homes. 🙂

Whahahhaaha I had NO IDEA I wrote a whopping 415 comments, now it’s 417 with this and the last one I made! Time sure flies. It’s been 1 year, so more than 1 comment a day! Hee hee hee. Glad your blog has garnered so much readership and activity. You sure deserve if for the sheer amount of stuff you write about, the dedication and the creativity!

As a rough estimate, I think u posted about 400 comments on my site too! I have to manually tally the numbers from the several emails accounts you used!

    • bookjunkie says:

That’s cool 🙂 Yeah I knew you always supported me but I didn’t know it was that many comments…….xo!

I was thinking I’ll put in the energy now when I have time and before I get jaded – hope I don’t though and can sustain the interest. I see so many wonderful bloggers end their blogs because they just lost the inspiration or work got too busy or the cost of maintaining the space was too much.

I always search your blog when I don’t know what to eat. Or when I want to seek out a brand new experience. Don’t know how you juggle it while working, cos blogging can be quite an effort and time consuming thing.

  7. Al says:

<3 thank you for giving me sth to look forward to everyday <3

This was a very nice post. I hope you don’t mind me using your idea in the future.

  9. Lady J says:

Wow…I never imagined that I would make it on this list.. I’m so glad that we found each other in blog-sphere. In my wildest dreams, I never thought that I could make friends through blogging but I did and I count you as one of the many friends that I’ve made along the way in the past year or so along with other blog-friends like Kaho, 365days2play that you helped intro.

I agree with you.. a blog is a lonely place without comments and like you, I feel like a ‘big kid’ in a candy store.. 😉 Thanks for the blog-love you’ve given.

Now, a floral post anytime soon? 😉
