You must visit the grocery section at Mustafa. This was was a smaller section at the newer part of Mustafa with the parking lots. There’s also the full supermarket with fruits and vegetables which we didn’t explore this time.
It’s always an interesting experience when everything is completely new. That’s when I don’t hate shopping. Especially when it’s shopping for stuff that’d good to eat. Some of these snacks I am seeing for the very first time.
Never seen rambutan chips before.
There were also durian chips. I won’t like these as I can’t take durian products although I love the actual fresh durian straight from the thorny shell.
I have tried dried mango from the Philippines, but never tried the ones from India.
I think these you can get aplenty in Malaysia – jackfruit chips.
A brand new fizzy drink from Austria. Caught my eye with its Naughty G logo. Made me wonder what Horny Goat Weed is.
India’s soft drink to rival Coca Cola – before India decided to import Coke. I tried it once years ago, but since I started off with Coke, nothing else can compare.
Seems like you don’t need to travel to India to get all this wonderful snacks. Sweet peanuts from India.
I like these freshly made by my aunt. She makes murruku with onions and chilli – so good.
We recently went to Kerala and everyone was asking us to get banana chips. Seems like you can get it here now. Wonder if they are as good as the Malabar Chips – they looks the same to me and are imported from Kerala.
I was surprised to see Swedish products as well that I used to only find at Ikea.
I’m a sucker for cream biscuits.
Horlicks biscuits. I have had Ovaltine biscuits when I was a kid, and Horlicks candy, but never seen this famous malt drink in biscuit form.
About 10 years ago and earlier, every time someone went on holiday my sister would request that they buy back Bounty chocolate. We didn’t have them back then. These are so good – chocolate with coconut candy within.
Cakes from Germany. We were going crazy with all the variety. This was a little bit like what it felt like the first time in a US supermarket. Oh the mind boggling, wonderful variety. You just wanted to get it all.
Next we saw the lavendar chocolate from Belgium. Never had lavendar chocolate before either. Ok so now you know where to go, if you’re having a party with loads of junk food.
There was so much variety of sweets as well. This place definitely rivals Candy Empire.
Yes, it’s a shoppers paradise! I actually got some really nice crystal sugar sticks at Mustafa at a steal! 😉
I don’t like the crowded parts, but the newer part of the mall is ok and less chaotic 🙂
Ravi lived in India before Pepsi came in (they moved there in 88 for about 3 years, and Pepsi came in about a year after he did) and Thumbs up was all they had for soda.
I’d heard him go on his long diatribes about how awful TU was. So when we went to India for our post-wedding party, I knew I *HAD* to try it.
I took a sip and said “this isn’t so bad…why’d you bitch about……..oh. UGH!!! WHAT is that aftertaste? Get me water, please, PLEASE?!!!” One sip was more than enough. That licorice-y aftertaste is pretty vile to my tastebuds.
I genuinely love mustafa…it’s a confusing jumble of everything, including (amusingly enough) American products you can’t get anywhere else in Singapore, like Tang, and Old Spice aftershave.
Thats’s soo funny 😉
you just reminded me of the after-taste. Yeah forgot all about that.
My dad used to use old spice all the time….so it has sentimental quality for me 🙂 I recall the scent as a kid. I used to have a lot of Tang as a kid but I didn’t know it was still sold.
Durian chips? That’s a first that I’ve heard! My bf is a huge fan of durians and chips of all sorts … I wonder if he’s up for a “perfect combination”! :p
I think I’ve seen something like this in Malaysia too. But I only crave for the real fruit which I haven’t had in a while.
They have durian chips in Bangkok!!! It actually taste v good.. 😉
yes, i agree, fresh durian is the only yummy one
Goodness me! Banana chips 🙂 Man, I am craving for some
they do look good huh? 😉
I didn’t know they had so many snacks not available in the usual supermarkets! Don’t need to go to Candy Empire anymore. Now I know where to head to!
I suspect their prices are better too.
Dried rambutan? Dried durian? Wow! I’ve never in my entire life seen this… How do they dry the durian pulp? I’ve jot down a note to explore this little candy place next 😀
never quite thought about it…. would be interesting to see how it works in a factory huh?
On a side note, didn’t know durian has zero cholesterol 😀 Not bad!
I think durian has high fat content though but I’ll risk it 😉
