Inspired at the Art Science Museum (1 of 11)

When we first decided to visit the brand new Art Science Museum at Marina Bay Sands, I was expecting the experience to be good. But honestly, I never expected it to be this good. Oh you just have to see the gorgeous paintings and arresting sculptures by Salvador Dali and Vincent van Gogh. I guarantee you’ll be inspired. Even for someone like me who is a total nube at art, could tell that sublime talent was on display and I was lucky to experience it. I would say the ticket price of S$30 is worth every penny and I would not hesitate to revisit the current exhibits. Previously, to see exhibits of this quality, you’d probably have to pay for a plane ticket to Paris or Spain on top of the ticket price. I must add that it was more of a Dali exhibit. The Van Gogh included prints rather than the originals, but it was still an beautiful experience for me.

You can’t miss the unique design of the museum which is a stone’s throw away from the Shoppes at Marina Bay Sands.

The melting pocket-watch just outside the entrance, signalled that the genious of Dali was here in Singapore.  I found the plates beside each exhibit very enlightening.  In the past my visits to museums have been hurried as I was on a tight travel schedule, but this time I could view everything at leisure and that made a huge difference.  I spent a total of 3 languid hours immersed in a world of shapes and colour. The the symbolism of the clocks have more meaning for me now.  As I get older, time passing is becoming more of a reality and I no longer feel as immortal as I did in my youth.  There is a sense of anxiety about this that I feel was reflected in the work.

I tried to take photos of the captions as well, just to educate myself and entice anyone out there who are yearning to know what this cool new museum has to offer and are hesitating about the ticket price. Photos (non-flash) were allowed in most areas and everyone was snapping away. I had a similar experience overseas, where we were not stopped from taking photos. For me the taking of photos allows me to truly relish the experience and focus on the pieces that compelled my attention.

Adored the orange paper lobsters and crabs that were all over the lobby. Here’s where you buy your tickets and if you have an OCBC card and probably some other credit cards, I think you can get the ticket for S$24 instead of S$30.

  1. I must admit I was kind of put off by the $30 entry fee, which for Singapore is quite pricey considering the other museums are less than half that price. But now you’ve made me want to go visit the museum soon.

The lobsters were replaced by the Titanic banner when I was there last week. I paid only $12.20 for just the Dali Exhibition. Didn’t want to rush and will go for the Titanic Exhibition some other time.
