Introducing Adrianna, Yann & Shilo

Adrianna Tan has been writing for a real long time. I was surprised to find out just how young she is, as she writes with maturity beyond her years. I love that she writes from the heart and with an authenticity that is rare to find. She opens up her life to you, and I particularly enjoyed her recent post about her relationship with her brother.

Her long form writing on Popagandhi is simply divine. Her post about being Teochew gives me new cultural insight I didn’t have before. And this early post on her original blog, about her grandfather, made me cry.

Yann is a writer whom I only recently chanced upon, thanks to the delightful Miss Ene who wrote about her glowingly on her blog. Yann is so open about the heartache that comes with infertility, and communicates with such endearing wit. Little Bryan and Bryna will forever be etched in my heart.

Both these writers don’t rely on photographs to tell their story the way I have been doing. They make me realize how lazy I have been, satisfied to let my photos do the talking and forgetting the original intent of why I started a blog.

What I admire the most about them, is their ability to paint a picture in your head and to have a style that is markedly their own. There is also that unique Singaporean flavour that I gravitate towards. They make it look so easy, when obviously it is not. They don’t use big words or convoluted sentence structures. There is no pretentiousness about them. There is also something brave about letting people in. That is something I haven’t really been able to do yet as I keep holding back to protect myself. Some issues are too emotionally hard to confront.

I’ve also very recently stumbled upon Shilo When I was Young and I was hooked. I have always loved our green spaces and trees but Shilo has made me appreciate our greenery on a whole other level with The Secret Meadows of Singapore. She makes me feel lucky indeed.

You know a blog is a keeper (and needs to be shared) when you find yourself scrolling back to read all the older posts.

    Sorry, and an additional.

I would love to hear more of your story. But it’s okay if it only is shared in small doses. We all have our own comfort level with sharing private things, and being publicly vulnerable. When you’re ready, I’ll be eager to listen.

Cool links! Gosh, recently I just haven’t had the time to read and comment on as many blog posts as I want to… 🙁
