Utterly Shocked over Terrorist Attacks in Mumbai

Senseless killing.

Fear, dread, outrage, sadness. There really are no words. Everything else in your life seems insignificant at this point.

Is there any place in this world that is safe?

Three blasts within 10 minutes. All during the rush hour and the bombs were home made.

The first blast: 6.56 pm in Zaveri Bazaar in South Mumbai, a crowded market named for the many small jewelry stores that fill its narrow streets.

A minute later: explosion at Opera House in South Mumbai

Third blast: 7.06 pm near Kabutarkhana at Dadar West in Central Mumbai.

The last attack on Mumbai was in 2008 which claimed 166 lives including that of a Singaporean woman.

I’m beyond speechless as well 🙁
How can people justify their horrific actions towards their own peace-loving innocent fellow countrymen/women at all? :'(

I can’t help but feel nervous when I am in the MRT during rush hour. With the world like what it is these days…you can’t help but wonder. Really hope our government is using some secret high tech methods to minimize the possibility.

I share your outrage and sorrow over the senseless and barbaric terrorist acts. With its teeming population ,chaotic cities and laid-back security India is an easy target.

    • bookjunkie says:

Even though Singapore has tighter security, I can’t help but worry sometimes when I’m on a packed MRT. Those constant alert announcements seem to elevate the level of nervousness.

  3. notabilia says:

We have such terror fatigue. It seems like roughly every two years we call our ENTIRE family in Mumbai and make sure everyone is OK. (We’ve been doing this since the early 90s.) And, of course, we lived through 9/11 which still causes me nightmares to this day.

    • bookjunkie says:

I’m so sorry for what you and your family have gone through. It’s sad that such cruelty exists in this world and the innocent have to suffer. And it’s all so random and senseless.

  4. Crystal says:

The sad truth is that there is nowhere that is truly safe.

10 years ago, Mumbai was just a strange place on a map. One I knew of, possibly even aspired to visit in that magical someday way.

Today I have family there, and my first reaction was to email my MIL to ask if people were okay. It reminds me that everytime there’s a tragedy like this, people are losing family members. Over politics.
