Places to Indulge: TWG Tea Garden

There are now two great places for high tea at The Shoppes at Marina Bay Sands. Both by TWG which stands for The Wellness Group. I somehow prefer the one on the Bridge because there is a bit more privacy and it’s nice to look at the sampans below.

This second outlet is known as TWG Tea Garden.  The cutlery here is so pretty and the food presentation exquisite.  It’s always a treat to have high tea and I think it’s something you must do if you’re in Singapore and want a bit of indulgence and relaxation.  The orchids, the gold, the lighting and the surrounding water, makes sets this place apart from the hotel high tea locations.  But if you wish a less open surrounding and more privacy and cosiness I would suggest the Rose Veranda at Shangri-la. However, TWG is more of a French style while the one at hotels are more English or International style.  Although the last time I was at the Rose Veranda they had switched to the TWG brand as well. You can read more about the owners at Forbes, all starting with an evening stroll in Paris.

I love TWG but I’ve only ever been to the one at ION!

I adore TWG! I went to the one in Republic Plaza and they played “On the Street Where You Live” (of My Fair Lady’s fame)… the jazz version! I fell in love with it immediately at that moment. Hehe.

This TWG has THE WORST service I have ever experienced in Singapore. Avoid like the plague.

thanks for the feedback…yeah it really depends on who is serving us at that point. Some of them seem too snooty and not too polite and that can be a turn-off for me.

I guess maybe I’m fussy, as I mentioned to my companions that the service was not too great, but they felt the service was good. I often encounter this difference of opinion….my companions always being ok with the service when I find it quite rude. It was quite subtle and all in the tone sometimes. Not overtly rude, but they just seemed impatient. Perhaps I’ve been hanging out with people in the F&B industry who keep pointing out to me what is unacceptable.

Having said all that, the ambience, the quality of the food and teas…wonderful. Just hope the service matches up with it soon.
