The NY Times didn’t give a positive review of the movie The Young Victoria, but I found it quite charming, especially Emily Blunt. Rupert Friend was sweet in the role of King Albert and the chemistry between the actors just worked and you just find yourself rooting for the young couple all the way.
However when I do look at old portraits of the actual Queen Victoria I find it hard to imagine that that sour looking woman was actually so spirited and endearing.
But I do love a period movie, especially historical biographies, with all those lovely flouncy gowns and constrained emotions.

I’d forgotten I wanted to see this. Thanks for the reminder!
So far I’ve loved all the movies Emily Blunt has starred in. She was adorable in The Devil Wears Prada. Loved that she stole the show from Ann Hathaway.
absolutely loved her in Devil Wears Prada too. I think she has quite the career ahead of her!
The costumes were cool
It made me think of the drop dead gorgeous costumes from the movie Marie Antoinette with Kirsten Dunst. I wish we all wore billowy skirts….fashion seemed like so much fun then…..although I don’t think I would like to wear a corset.
I really enjoyed this! It was very beautifully shot as well – says the girl who is a total sucker for shallow depth of field.
love period movies 🙂
