I tried a frozen prawn (they call it shrimp in the US I think) cocktail when I was on holiday and it was bad – glassy taste. So even though I don’t indulge in seafood frequently, it’s nice to know our seafood is fresh. It’s also cool to be able to have our uniquely Singapore version of crab, with chilli, pepper or butter, with our tons of seafood restaurants dotting the island.

The photo of the red crab in that picture is so cute 🙂
agreed, fresh seafood is the best! So awesome living in asia, we get year round fruits and an abundant amount of seafood
these are the things I don’t really think about, but I think those who study abroad and away from the coast tell me about how it’s so hard to get tropical fruit and seafood.
There’s nothing worse than rubbery shrimp! I grew up on the coast and then moved inland. What a disappointment to find out what bad seafood tastes like! You’re lucky!
I only tried it once and it was so bad….yeah I really do like this list as it reminds me not to take everything for granted…..balances out all the times I gripe 😉
That’s so true!! Fresh food – seafood or otherwise – is the best!
Funny, I was just complaining earlier to a colleague how chicken, prawns and most things taste frozen in Hong Kong…..
they do? I always thought Hong Kong would get them fresh too. That’s interesting.
Really depends in where one dines. I like patronising mom-and pop’s and for the price one pay, it’d be too much to ask for fresh seafood… But, dimsum is always fresh prawns 🙂
I recall that outside of Hong Kong I have never had better dim sum or porridge :)……soooo good!
