The problem with blogging about food or viewing food blogs is that it makes me so darn hungry. Triggers all those cravings, especially if it’s photos of something I love to eat. Like this wonderful Nasi Padang Lunch at Sebar Menanti II. I had no idea there were two Sebar Menanti restaurants till recently and that they were run by siblings. The Minang stall opposite the mosque is also run by another sibling. All three stalls are part of the same family and this is what the daughter of the owner wrote on Facebook to clarify:
Actually, there’re 2 Sabar Menantis now…My uncle is running the other one. My mother just decided to branch out. Another one of my aunt is running another nasi padang restaurant but she didn’t use the name. Her’s is Rumah Makan Minang.. So, to date, along that stretch there’re 4 authentic nasi padang stores including Pariaman.
The curries at Sebar Menanti II are richer and the gravies are slightly thicker. There is no air-conditioning so it got pretty hot, but the meal came up to a couple of dollars lower. Just around S$12. The teh alia I had here was lovely as well, and because there was no crowd there was no hassle when it came to placing our orders. I tried everything except the beef rendang which B said was a tad dry. I especially love the tempeh gravy and the mix of curries with the steamed rice. The lack of crowd is due to the fact that the fasting month has commenced.
Started drinking before I took the photo. I sometimes do that and that’s the reason the glass is just three-quarters full.
Just look out for the blue building when you get here and this sign. The restaurant is a 747 North Bridge Road in the Kampong Glam area.
Just outside the restaurants home-made Malay kuehs (snacks) were being sold and I couldn’t resist trying something. So much nicer than the commerically made ones.
