Update on 18 August 2011: Sigh….the plagiarized text is up again
Update on 17 August 2011: Thanks so much to Yahoo Singapore, who very promptly removed the plagiarized chunks of text.
What I posted earlier:
Someone copied a chunk of text from my previous post and posted it under the user name ‘Chao Hai Roger’ under one of the comments in response to an article on Yahoo Singapore (my favourite Singapore news site by the way). Someone in my family pointed it out to me. I was tickled at first and felt she must be mistaken. Who in the heck would want to copy my rambling incoherent thoughts and pass it off as their own? I then wondered if it was just a link to my blog post, but when I saw it, I felt a little disturbed. Never been impersonated before and I wonder how often this kind of thing happens to bloggers.
My casual thoughts on my blog are sort of being taken out of context now, plagiarized and attributed to someone else? Just wanted to point out to anyone who reads this, that this Yahoo user ‘Roger’ is not me. I also like my comments to remain on my blog where I have control in moderating replies. As I have stated before, I am old-fashioned and am not comfortable with expletives, xenophobia and violent language. My blog is a journal about life in Singapore, not necessarily politics and sometimes I just feel compelled to vent. Incidents like these discourage me from being open with my thoughts.
And now I will let the matter rest as one of the casualties of blogging. Sigh – what an irony, and the joke is on me. If ‘Roger’ really liked what I said than I would just say, thank you. Imitation is flattery, but I would like to implore please – don’t copy and paste next time. Thanks so much.
An I being too melodramatic about this….sorry if I am.
