Red Dot Traffic: That Red Building on Maxwell Road

We always drive by this gorgeous red building, but I have never been inside. Been yearning to for quite some time and we finally did it.

The building itself at 28 Maxwell Road is called Red Dot Traffic while the museum within is called Red Dot Design Museum. The tickets to the museum within costs S$8 each, but it was worthwhile just to experience something quite different. Because there were a heck load of photos, I need to split this into a couple of posts. Will start with the external facade because it’s just one of the most captivating buildings around. It’s such a pretty red and surrounded by lush trees with leaves a shade of pretty apple green.

Even the window shutters are painted this vibrant red on the outside and a pretty grey on the inside. These type of windows remind me of my old lego set.

Cool swing with vines around it’s ropes.

I guess the place has the name Red Dot Traffic as it’s right smack in front of the traffic junction. And if you look closely, when the light turns red, it’s actually a bunch of dots turning red. Or green.

Hi, thought I could shed some light on the building’s name, which should actually be broken into two components: “Red Dot” and “Traffic”.

“Red Dot” refers to a German organisation (http://en.red-dot.org/) which highlights and awards excellence in product design. At 28 Maxwell Road – being the main occupant – they’ve lent their name to the building.

On the other hand “Traffic” is more of a nod to the past, where the building once served as the headquarters for the local Traffic Police contingent.

    Hope this helps. Cheers!
