Afternoon Tea at Four Seasons

I could not find any reviews of the afternoon tea at the Four Seasons. Even more reason to blog about it and share what I thought of it. Perhaps the lack of reviews should have been a sign. The place was filled with business people and we were the only ones having tea. It was a bit odd to have tea amidst people having their business deals and speaking loudly. Not too relaxing. Someone actually playing the piano would have added to the ambience. Also, the salon was quite open and small. But after all my complaining, what made up for everything was the company. Made for another great memory for us.

It was fairly empty when we arrived, but soon filled up with business folks who were probably here for a convention.

But I must say the quality of the desserts here were very good. If you love good desserts, you’ll love it here. Much better quality than at Shangri-la. But I guess we tend to crave for more light savoury items. To be fair, this was afternoon tea and not a high tea buffet. I guess I am not so refined.  But I must say, out of all the items I was very impressed by the tarts, scones and panna cotta. The service was attentive so at least that made up for things.

If I was not so stuffed, I would have gone for another tart.

We were given vanilla and raisin scones, but I only had room for the vanilla. Divine, with the lovely jam and clotted cream.

I was particularly impressed by the jam.

We were served on a tiered tray which they will attentively top up, but it was wasted on us as we were so full even though we skipped breakfast and lunch. I think the tea and sweet items filled us up very quickly.

The mango cheese cake was so creamy and I really think they must have a very talented pastry chef. I hope the hotel does all it can to retain his or her services.

I had two shots of the fruit cocktail. It was good and even better if they had added a bit of liquor to it. Perhaps they did. Just a tinge?

The panna cotta was lovely too.

The sandwiches, didn’t quite appeal to us.

Yup. Not so impressed by the sandwiches. The bread was not very soft and the sandwiches seemed dry. I wish they had added more butter or creamy cheese. But then again, I like my sandwiches real simple so perhaps I am the wrong person to judge.

The teas were good.  Just like at our recent escapade at Shangri-la, the TWG brand was used. However here you were limited to just two. Or one, if you chose to have a coffee instead.  I went for Smoky Earl Grey.  I think it’s confirmed for me.  I prefer the regular Earl Grey.  And it’s also confirmed that I am very not refined, adding sugar and milk to my tea.  But who cares. I think we should all do what we think tastes the best.  No need to follow any conventional rules and suffer in the process.

I went for a cafe latte instead of another tea. They should have had a hot chocolate option (included in the price) for people who don’t drink coffee or tea, like my companion.

Here is the menu and prices. If you’ve had tea here before, I would like to hear your thoughts or read your review as well.

I used to head out there for a drink or two in the evening. It’s a nice quiet place to unwind for the day, alone. Have not tried their tea yet, maybe the next time.

I think the champagne brunch which is much pricier might be a treat.

I must have been there at the wrong time…when the hotel was full of delegates.

Yeah, the last time I wanted to go for the brunch, it was fully booked (due to one of those mother’s / father’s day weekend).
For me, weekdays are usually a safer bet.

every time I leave a buffet I feel so stuffed I can’t eat anymore..and then the next day I wish I had tried more. Think I just love drinking a lot of tea and that fills me up quick.
