Little India: South Indian Food at Anjappar

Anjappar is from India. Chennai specifically. The old name, Madras, might be more familiar. The cuisine is referred to as Chettinad.

Every couple of weeks I crave for thosai and since we were at Mustafa we headed to the branch at Syed Alwi Road to try this restaurant out for the very first time.

Can’t have too much Indian restaurant food, because after the meal I always feel quite bloated and I suspect because of the ghee or oil used? Not too sure. Or perhaps the dhall?

I much preferred my onion thosai to the non-vegetarian set. The tea here was good too. The onion thosai was just S$3.50 compared to the S$10 set that came with various curries including chicken and fish. Service was brisk as the place was super crowded and I think they were trying to get people to leave as soon as they finish. That part wasn’t very good as I don’t like feeling rushed. What I did like was the fact that the chutneys were actually spicy. These days restaurants seem to be modifying their food and making it less spicy so it was a welcome change for this chilli queen.
