Helsinki: The Beautiful Harbour

Here’s where people take a cruise to places like Tallin in Estonia, Stockholm and St Petersburg in Russia. We didn’t do that as we wanted to experience Helsinki fully and had limited time.  But there is a beauty here that I am so happy to have experienced. When the clouds part and the blue sky and a bit of sunlight is revealed.  Then everything practically glitters.  During the afternoon sunset the sky turned a beautiful pink and blue. And I think the red Viking Line Cruise Ship is just so majestic and seems of a different world. With the Russian style Church in the background it looked even more other worldly.  I didn’t know before that Helsinki was under Russian rule for 100 years.  Made me think the whole place must be glittering in summer and no wonder it’s the high season then. But I loved coming in winter as the cold was so refreshing to me.

My photos are chronologically backwards, as I found the sunset so beautiful and had to put them up first. The water is so beautiful and I am guessing this is the Baltic sea?

    Hi BookJunkie,

I’ve been offline for a while, and today I decided to visit your site for a long-overdue Singapore fix. What a (nice) surprise to see all these beautiful photos of Stockholm and Helsinki instead! I’m jealous of your trip, having been to neither of these places. And now, thanks to your pictures, I want a Tomten doll! See what you’ve done? LOL 🙂

so glad to see you here Maria. I felt so lucky that I could go to and I hope you get your Tomten doll 🙂 Canada is on my list too….one day I hope.

The harbour is pretty! Love the blue sky background. Must be a rarity at this time of the year, cuz it was so in Norway too. Reminds me a little of Bergen.

I went a lil overboard with the photos once the blue sky was revealed. Just for half an hour I think. It was a rarity. Most of my other photos are a bit dull & blurry due to very grey conditions. But I loved the cold that goes with the grey.

Beautiful. Ravi has been to Tallin and says it’s gorgeous…I think that’s how he visited Copenhagen (or Helsinki?…somewhere)
