If you’re intending to decorate your house for CNY, the Chinatown bazaar seems to have the lowest prices. But I guess for something unique you could go to the other countries in Asia where the festival is celebrated as well, like Vietnam, Taiwan or China. I thought these paper dragons in Chinatown were pretty innocent looking.
Most shops when you enter, all you see is red which is an auspicious colour in Chinese culture. I quite like the variations in pink as well. Lots of gold too.
Every year there will be a stuff toy version of the zodiac animal of the year. I like the dazed look on this dragon.
These are based on more traditional drawings. I’m told some of these patterns that the decorations are based on were found in ancient China preserved in the Forbidden City in Beijing.
A very cool paper dragon. Soon you’ll see these hung up everywhere in Singapore.
The traditional lion’s head.
Cushion and tissue box covers are also sold everywhere. This year there’s this rose patterned cushion cover in a variety of colours but I think pink looks best.
This is what walking down the streets of the bazaar is like.
Loads of tourists, but even more locals. It’s hard to walk and you will probably get nudged and bumped. It’ll get worse as we get closer to Chinese New Year.
Baby dragons in a dragon boat. Just realized I’ve never seen a dragon boat race apart from on TV.
Remote controlled balloon animals and hair clips to create up-do’s are all the rage.
There will soon be a visitor centre for tourists, in Chinatown.
Just in front of Chinatown Complex which holds the market and hawker centre. The whole place is really old and in need of an upgrade. I wish they would at least upgrade the escalators. I am super lazy and hate climbing up stairs.
One of the unique stalls at the food court that I won’t be ordering from any day soon.
As we left Chinatown it went from hot and sunny to cloudy.
First time I’m observing these longish clouds. Never really payed attention when I was not blogging.
Last year’s pillow cover was red with a gold rabbit on it. I’m pretty sad that there was no equivalent with a dragon on it for this year.
We also bought that dragons on a boat decoration. I love buying decorations for chinese new year…and I’m a huge dragon fan so I went a little out of control this year.
i am really loving the dragon theme too 🙂
