This was our second visit and it was fun. Each time I see something new. This is the only time I don’t mind getting bumped into. It actually adds to the festiveness. Just knowing that everyone is out shopping for things to decorate their homes with and goodies to feed relatives for the reunion dinner and visiting.
We tried coming by the day before, but we were late and the whole road was pretty jammed, but I did capture a few shots.
The view from the top of the stairs at the Chinatown MRT station is amazing. So much activity and colour.
Flanked by the old shophouses and ahead the temporary stalls and just all those red lanterns. This is what I call vibrant.
I liked the sweet pink ang pow packets that both little and big girls with love.
Paper pineapples to decorate the home.
The year of the dragon just seems extra festive. The dragon is such a commanding figure that you can’t help feeling positive for the new year.
So many kinds of lanterns.
And then it started raining. I welcomed it as it has been so hot for the past few days.
I am always captivated by beautiful paper cuttings.
Only children know how to make the best of the rain.
I sometimes prefer the cute version of the dragons as some are just too fierce.
Thought this traditional lion tissue box case would make the coolest gift. If you’re a visitor to Singapore I would suggest this. A truly unique present.
Could not resist popping into the Tintin store.
And then I spotted the lion tissue case in sweet pink.
The innovative stalls rolled out their makeshift canvas sheets. They sunk down with weight from the rain. It was cool and added to the festive atmosphere.
I was just so happy it was not hot anymore. No sweating is always a wonderful thing for me. And rare indeed in Singapore.
A peanut specialist.
The lucky bamboo plant.
Good stuff!
Like to see more photos, especially photos of live performances, like singing, dancing and acrobatic.
In the past, some hotels/shopping centers (such as Raffles City) would host cultural performances during festive sessions. Just wonder if I can find some these few days.
Cheers…
I think about 2 years ago there was a wonderful traditional cultural dance from a tribal group in China. It was at Vivo. Thanks so much for dropping by 🙂 So glad you liked the post.
I had no idea they were tissue box covers!
I thought the pink ones were cute.

I was there by chance on 21st Jan and watched fabulous dances by Inner Mongolian Dance Troupe.
LOVED THEM!!
I think that will end on 29 Jan.
