Window Shopping at Ikea

Even though I have the new catalogue, it’s always more fun to actually look at the stuff at the store. Often some things can feel quite flimsy, so I need to shake them a little and see how easily they would fall apart. Especially for cupboards the shelving can sometimes be very thin and light weight. But I still always end up picking stuff from here because of the design and price.

What I am very unhappy about is the customer service. It really really sucks. Once we had furniture delivered and the delivery guy was so scary and intimidating that I vowed never to order anything from Ikea again. He actually came over in an angry mood and the other service people with him were scared as he barked orders at them. I am still left with a very bad impression. This is the problem when a company outsources.

Luckily I don’t need any more big items and the smaller items are easy to pick up. I hardly buy anything apart from towels these days but I still like browsing.

Gonna take you on a spin, but backwards. You know how you get trapped in Ikea and have the go the whole way through even though halfway through you wanna get out fast but can’t. So I took pictures.

Liked these tiles for your balcony, which you can convert into a little deck.

I especially like the plant section. Want to buy one of these some day, but only after I spring clean. Well it gives me a reason to spring clean.

This totally looks like grass. Would be cool all lined up, to create a garden feel.

I like bamboo too.

Now we’re at the picture section and I snapped of just the new ones.

I’ve always liked this red clock but it’s a lot huger than I thought.

I like a clean face on both watches and clocks.

The Ocean in your room? Although another idea would be to print out your own photos of the sea and blow them up. Never done it before, but always wanted to.

I love not only Ikea’s kitchen section, but kitchen sections everywhere. I find the colours so enticing. Especially this red. Everything on closer inspection seems not as sturdy though. But I guess you probably know that too. The sturdier items are more expensive.

Love the pink candy striped trays.

I have a confession. The last time I was here I bought 2 glasses and still have not used them. It’s kinda easy to buy stuff you don’t really need, here.

This was in the kiddie section, but I want this too.

Bought similar cups and bowls many years ago and they are actually very useful. And so cheap. Yes, I’m an adult who sometimes uses kid utensils.

I love the classic Hemnes series. This burnt orange is so nice.

I adore the lace like design on these plant pots.

This was the first thing we saw. Many containers for just 5 bucks. I was just wondering how air tight they were.

Hope you liked this virtual shopping experience at the Tampines branch. I left buying zilch. Oh yeah, just towels.

I love spotting Ikea stuff at hotels and restaurants (usually just the kids stuff, but every once in a while a bookcase worms its way inside too). Beware of the plants however! Back home, I could never keep one alive and a dear green-fingered friend refuses to buy any on that same ground. Re: the green containers: have those, I use them to store pasta, rice, flour and frozen baby meals. They’re air tight, but what to do with the many many small ones? Still, it’s good value for the couple of big ones.

Oh yes…I see Ikea stuff at cafes all the time these days. A friend of mine got them to store their tea bags 🙂 yeah I thought good value too but I didn’t get it at the time.

Ikea does have so much cool stuff – I have to be careful to not buy a ton of stuff, especially in the kitchen section! I am a sucker for kitchen things, and pretty glasses especially.

The latest thing I’ve been looking for at kitchen sections is a pretty tea cup (sturdy too) with an in built strainer. So far those I’ve seen and liked are crazy expensive. But it’s fun when I have something to look out for.

That’s so funny because I went to Ikea on this day too. It’s not too far from my house so I stop in as often as possible. There are some things I just can’t resist, like the stackable glasses that save space! Or, the scented candles. You and I definitely have the same taste.

stackable glass are cool 🙂 Makes me think…Ikea is everywhere 😉 When I think Sweden…I think ABBA, Ikea and Pippi Longstocking 😉
