Movies About Hope & Faith: Jeff Who Lives at Home & Salmon Fishing in The Yemen

Watched two movies recently. Jeff Who Lives at Home and Salmon Fishing in The Yemen. Both tell very different stories, but I found a similar theme of hope and faith. The slacker movie appealed to me a lot more. I found it extremely sweet and touching, while I found the latter draggy and and at times boring and too preachy. I like movies to reveal their message without overtly preaching it and I prefer unpredictable endings. I also like a whole dose of comedy. The salmon fishing movie made me have a new appreciation for salmon though. Still not into fishing which I have never engaged in. It also made me want to learn more about Yemen.

When I was younger I naturally had a lot of faith and somehow everything I hoped for always seemed to materialize. As I got older, there were more and more disappointments. When I lost my dad, I lost my faith as well. Actually a whole part of me is gone forever. That’s all I know how to explain it. It’s been years but I’m still trying to recover and get back a bit to my once carefree ways which I miss. Perhaps the movie Jeff Who Lives at Home appealed to me because it also deals with the loss of the character’s father and how deeply it affected him. It’s a comedy, but I found it extremely moving and uplifting as well. I would strongly recommend it, especially if you’ve experienced similar grief.

I don’t like watching trailers, but just watch the first 1 minute if you must. I prefer watching movies without knowing anything about them. I find there are always plot revelations in the trailers which spoils it for me.

I am a huge fan of both Ewan McGregor and Emily Blunt but I have preferred them a lot more as other, more emotive, less reserved characters. My favourites would be Ewan McGregor in Moulin Rouge and Emily Blunt in The Devil Wears Prada. I hardly watch movies more than once, but those I could watch a couple of times.
