Why I Take Lots of Photos

I’m referring to photos I take of family.

It’s a simple reason.

It’s because I wish I had more photos with my dad.

I do have my memories of sweet times with him but the photos help jog my memory and it’s nice to see moments of love frozen in time.

He was not very vocal about how much he loved us but it was clear in his actions.

Wish we had videos back then but alas we didn’t. These days video taking is so convenient with the iPhone. It’s the one thing I appreciate about technology.

These days I don’t want to miss a moment of joy with my loved ones. Moments are so fleeting and children grow up in the flash of an eye. I still can’t believe my cousins are no longer toddlers I can carry around. And it’s really hard to think about my cousin whom we lost recently. The one with the heart of gold.

I just hope the family doesn’t get too annoyed with all the photo and video taking.

Guess I’m getting a bit more introspective as I face getting another year older.

    Very touched but this post.

You touched a nerve with this post about the reason why you take so many photos… Lately I find myself very keen of old things, among such are photos. Plus I have this paranoia that makes me take photos of my son everyday and I keep doing back-ups, just in case! I guess it’s our fear of loosing a dear person. Just like I lost my dad and I don’t really have many photos or other things from him. So sad.

Thanks for relating your very personal story too Sofia. Somehow the photo allows me to capture that moment and moments are so fleeting. When I look at photographs I am able to transport myself back in time. And yes. So afraid of losing them in the digital form. I’ve hardly printed out any of those I took with a digital camera. Thousands so I don’t know where to start.

Hi I had a really bad experience when my PC died on me and I lost some photos of my kids. But I am glad I did backup part of the collection. From a set of photos of say, a picnic, I picked about 5 out of 50 and save them in Dropbox. That way I am guaranteed that my photos will not be lost or destroyed.

I use Shutterfly as a backup but often I forget to do a backup. I’ve never tried Dropbox before. Must give it a shot for videos I’d like to preserve. Thanks for dropping by and sharing Stephen..much appreciated 🙂

My kids asked me why do I take photos of the family regularly. I told them I may die next week (accident etc.) then at least they have something to remember me by. My youngest kid asked me why he has hardly any photos of him growing up compared to his sisters. I don’t have the heart yet to tell him that his daddy lost his job during the financial crisis and taking photos of him was the last thing on my mind then.

I’m so glad you’re doing this for them…I treasure every single photo I have of my dad.

I feel for both you and your youngest son when you related that part of the story.
