Happiness Gift that Banishes Negativity for a While

I need an off switch for my mind. Here I am, awake at 4am and unable to go back to sleep due to worry. What better to do than to compose a blog post.

Haven’t been updating the blog lately as I’ve lost the mood to write with the compulsion I have placed on myself to only write about things that matter and not fluff. Annoyingly puts a block to everything.

Back to this annoying inclination of mine. You see, I tend to play out events in my mind and obsess needlessly about things that haven’t even materialised. I always imagine the worse outcome or scenario in every situation. It really sucks how I bring myself down like this. They say don’t surround yourself with negative people but how do you get rid of the one living in your mind?

The happiest times for me are with two little ones who don’t know this silly adult world of negativity and obsessing over things that don’t matter. They are my happiness gurus. When I’m with them, oh the joy. In a way they are like the youngest therapists ever and should charge by the hour for the joy they spread.

Anyone who has spent time with kids under 3 will tell you that it’s a mega mood booster to enter their world. It also gives me to excuse to read children’s books and discover how awesome they are. Adult books are filled with too much darkness sometimes and we need the good rhyming verse to lift our spirits.

Just occurred to me that even by writing about this I’ve remarkably and imperceptibly entered a happier place. It’s why grandkids or young relatives are so lovely especially when you get older. They really give you something to look forward to each day. And the little ones thrive as well, with the love from the endlessly patient mature folks who adore them. Yup, grandparents are often underestimated. Makes me appreciate my older relatives a lot more.

Yes, yet another rambling post, but i guess its ok since this is my diary after all (just made public). So is there anything in your life that just thinking about makes you happier?

Gosh it is so comforting to know that I am not alone in this. Thank you so much for sharing Catherine. It’s so hard huh? Wish we could switch off that overthinking button…I guess it’s because we are easily guilt tripped and we care too much.
