Update: I just went to check out the opening. You can see the photos I took in my latest post about Nex.
In today’s Straits Times there was an advert that the newest mall in Singapore – Nex is opening tomorrow. Well not all the shops, but one of the anchor stores, the Japanese department store, Isetan. As I am a sucker for anything new, although I hate shopping, I decided maybe we could check it out. Alas, there was a massive jam of delivery vans and trucks. So all I have for you today are pictures from the outside. Not a very pretty sight with construction still going on around the area and it just looks muddy.
The mall is located just next to the Serangoon MRT Station which is a stop on the purple line. I think of the MRT in terms of just its colours – red, green, yellow and purple. I have a hopeless sense of direction, but I have a pretty good memory when it comes to pictures, so I think in terms of pictures. I also have very bad conceptual skills and am hopeless when it comes to those 3D IQ tests, but somehow I have picture or video like memories of things that have occurred in the past. I am kinda happy I was made this way because I am very sentimental and love my happy memories, so who cares if I get lost sometimes and fail stupid IQ tests.
But I do digress. The mall is not very attractive and is just a massive grey lump of a building, but I am hopeful it will look more sophisticated on the inside. It’s supposed to be a big as ION Orchard, but it’s definitely not as attractive or distinctive, when you look at it from the outside. I am looking forward to the outlets like Food Republic, Wendy’s, Carl’s Junior and such. I am also eager to check out the new library and the Shaw theatre (although I wish it was Cathay instead – they have more comfortable seats and discounts on their tickets). My cousin R let me know that Freshness Burger is opening here which is really exciting as I just visited that chain in Osaka and never imagined they would be coming to Nex. It was a lovely place to have a burger and I wonder how it will be replicated in Singapore.
Here are the photos of Nex to wet your appetite – if you are new mall hungry like me.
