3 Singapore News Items that Caught My Eye Today

I think the best way to get a feel about what life in a country is like, is to read the newspapers. If it concerns politics, I prefer to read from other sources as well. The Financial Times for instance. … Continue reading

Driving towards Orchard Road back in April when there was no Haze

The area around Orchard Road true to it’s name is quite an orchard. I would love to see town (our term since teenhood, for the shopping district) become more of a green oasis just like New York’s Central Park. I … Continue reading

The Full Moon and a Planet?

I think one of the planets can be seen with the naked eye today, next to the full mooon. Any astronomers out there who can enlighten me? It looks too huge to be a star.

Singapore Daily Photos: Clarke Quay

There’s a wonderful view of the Fort Canning Park from Clarke Quay.  Just some shots as we were walking to the car park (parking garage). I wonder what the people working at this former riverside warehouse would make of the … Continue reading

Overcast Day

Sometimes, it surprises me how gorgeous our highways are, especially with the sky as a back drop. Love it when the sky is pretty like this. It also means the day will be cooler than usual. I hope the weather … Continue reading

Gorgeous Architecture: Marina Bay Sands

There are some buildings in Singapore that are such eyesores and so poorly designed that I wish they would take a cue off the innovative architecture of the Marina Bay Sands. I know I have photographed this building so much … Continue reading

Swirling Thunderstorm Clouds

It was a mighty hot 36 degrees celcius today which converts to 97 degrees Farenheit (may not sound too bad, but imagine muggy humidity of around 78%). But there is an upside.  Later in the day I looked up and … Continue reading

Fort Canning Park (3 of 3)

It was a total surprise to see art among the lushness. You see I haven’t been here for perhaps more than a year. It could be longer. The killer humidity is the only thing that keeps us away.

Fort Canning Park (1 of 3)

We don’t have mountains in Singapore, but I’m happy that we have hills even if they are just 60 metres high like this one. Did you know that this place was known as Bukit Larangan? It means “Forbidden Hill” in … Continue reading

Look Out for the Blood Red Moon Tonight

Update at 3.23am: The sky has a strange slight red tinge, but I can’t see the moon at all as the sky is completely clouded over with flashes of lightning. I am quite disappointed, but I hope someone else manages … Continue reading

My Second Visit to the Marina Barrage

It was much nicer this time as the weather was cooler. Totally overcast and there was a little bit of drizzle. Not many people flying kites though. Also we explored the cafe which had a nice view of the water. … Continue reading

#82. Singapore Sunsets

The sunsets in Singapore seem to happen in the blink of an eye. The sky goes from blue tinged with yellow, to blue tinged with pink and then it’s all just a deep blue. You’ll miss it if you don’t … Continue reading

Plaza Singapura: The Perfectly Placed Tree

Seeing a lush tree in the midst of a concrete mall is just the best thing. Keeps me sane.

Tree Pruners

Saw branches falling down from high up. They work in the blazing hot sun and in precarious situations. Not a job for someone with vertigo. These transient workers are the ones who keep Singapore looking like a finely groomed garden.

Clementi Mall Opening: Raining like Crazy

The rain came down, hard. After the rain. More of the rain. I get grouchy when my shoes get soaked in huge unavoidable puddles. I don’t mind the rest of me getting wet. And I do like the cooling down … Continue reading

Singapore Sea: Marina Barrage & the Port

Snapped some photos on the way to VivoCity. The Marina Barrage and the Port. Every time that I now pass by this area, I think of the two Bangladeshi men who were stuck in one of these containers. What a … Continue reading

The Serenity of Seletar Reservoir

If you don’t want to spend a cent for entertainment and just want somewhere to go to calm your soul, Seletar Reservoir is a wonderful place. So nice to be away from the bustle of town I say. And the … Continue reading

Uniquely Singapore Beaches

I think this is the few places on earth where you can spot huge ships and tankers at the beach. Not so good for swimming, but it’s quite a glorious sight from a distance. All those coconut trees at East … Continue reading

East Coast Beach on a Super Hot Day

I have countless photos of trees. Love em. One of our many ‘do not’ signs. I can’t ride a bike, so this looks like a good way to travel to me. Like the shade factor too. Love the yellow of … Continue reading

Uniquely Singapore Trees

I just can’t imagine Singapore without our trees. It’s one thing I never take for granted. This wintry tree seems like it belongs somewhere colder, but this was right on our Tiny Island at the former Turf Club. Saw this … Continue reading

Uniquely Singapore Skies

I love looking up and taking photos of our skies. In spite of our perpetual summer, we do see quite a bit of variation if we look hard enough. A fine day. Clear skies. Cumulous clouds on a blistering hot … Continue reading
