How Agreeable Are You?

I read this fascinating post about Agreeableness and how it relates to Expats, by Maria of I Was An Expat Wife and I just had to take the Big 5 Test.

Here are my results. The neurotic part is accurate as heck and I’m definitely very shy, but I didn’t realize that I was that agreeable. I knew I was a doormat though. But I do like there to be harmony. The best complement one of my bosses ever gave me was that I helped with harmony in the office. Doesn’t work on a resume but it sure did make me feel happy. It helped that I had angel colleagues. Also I hate seeing people get bullied. That’s why when I went to a bad office I started wondering if there was something wrong with me and it upset me so much.

Take the test and share your results if you want – I’m curious.

You typically don’t seek out new experiences.

This may or may not be true. It’s very true that I love a good rut. I’ll eat the same food for lunch every day for a month. I like routines. But on the other hand, I LOVE to travel, to see a new place (albeit from a western 4/5 star hotel). I don’t know that I would have chosen to live in Singapore on my own, but I was thrilled with the opportunity came about.

You probably have a messy desk!

Absolutely. However I disagree with the further assessments that I’m negligent and undependable. The truth is that yes, I am disorganized and sometimes things get done late or I lose paperwork, but I don’t think I’m negligent. I’m someone who my friends can always count on coming through for them.

You are neither particularly social or reserved.

Again, true. I’m extremely outgoing with friends. I’m extremely reserved in new and social situations where I don’t know many people.

You find it easy to criticize others.

Sometimes. I have a low tolerance for fools and people who are not competent. I am quick to become irritated with poor service, people who are supposed to help not doing so, and those who don’t want to do something because it will inconveinence them. On the other hand, I try to always be polite and I am always quick to forgive.

You are a generally anxious person and tend to worry about things.

I don’t think this is true. I do worry about my child and my husband. I worry about things that matter. But I’m very calm and level headed in a crisis. I’m also a survivor, and have dealt with tense situations well.

I don’t know…it seemed like a lot of subjective questions. Am I moody because I’m a high strung worrisome anxious person or because I’m bipolar and off my meds for good reason? Am I quick to judge? In some situations, absolutely! In others, I’m the person pleading with others to just “put themselves in person X’s shoes”.

I’m guessing based on that I’m a poor candidate for expatriation.

Thanks for sharing your results and thoughts Crystal 🙂

I guess all these tests are pretty subjective. On that note I am definitely a worrier even though I wish I wasn’t. Although in times of crisis I manage ok…it’s long after the crisis that I crumble. I think I suppress quite a bit.

Maybe you could do a series on personality and bloggers? I wonder how many bloggers are introverted. I can’t see a raving extrovert spending day after day at home on the computer….

  3. This was fun! I learned I am not an extravert!

My results don’t seem very accurate:
