I’m Gen X and I’m going with Team Seinfeld, and to me 56 ain’t old. I am sounding like a fuddy duddy already but I totally don’t get her music. Please take the Poll! I’m curious to know who will win this poll match.
Huffington Post reports:
Twelve days after Lady Gaga wound up in his box during a Mets game, Jerry Seinfeld has called her “a jerk” and then some. Joking or no? Read and decide.
“This woman is a jerk. I hate her,” Seinfeld said during a WFAN radio interview on Monday, perhaps . “I can’t believe they put her in my box, which I paid for.”
Gaga, dressed in bra and swilling beer, was moved from her front row seat to Seinfeld’s empty box (without his knowledge) after flipping off photographers.
“You give people the finger and you get upgraded? Is that the world we’re living in now?” he said.
Seinfeld first said when asked about the June 10th incident, reports the NY Post, “I wish her the best.. you take one ‘A’ off of that and you’ve got gag.”
“I don’t know what these young people think or how they promote their careers,” Seinfeld said. “I’m older, I’m 56. I look at Lady Gaga the way Keith Hernandez watches these kids when they pull the pocket out, they wear the inside-out pocket. … Do you think he understands that? He can’t understand that. That’s a new game, that’s kids.”
He added, “I’m not one of these all-publicity-is-good people. People talk about you need exposure — you could die of exposure.”
Time Magazine also covered the Seinfeld vs Gaga:
Seinfeld, a die-hard Mets fan, originally brushed off the incident. But in a radio interview on Monday, Seinfeld sang a different tune. “I changed my mind. This woman’s a jerk. I hate her,” he told New York sports station WFAN. “I can’t believe they put her in my box, which I paid for. You give people the finger and you get upgraded? Is that the world we’re living in now?”
He continued with a riff that NewsFeed could not believe was the work of the actual Jerry Seinfeld and not a Seinfeld impersonator: “What is she giving the finger [for]? What’s the finger anyway? Speaking of interesting and new, how old is the finger? How did it even get to be the finger?”
I’ll leave you with why I love Seinfeld. Here he is feuding with Newman. Oh how I miss that show!:
TEAM GAGA!!!!!! Sorry for being an obnoxious gen-yer 😛
hehehe that’s fine 🙂 I’m an old fogie gen-xer… It makes life more interesting!
I am with Seinfield in this. Why the heck did she get an upgrade to his box? REALLY?!
I liked the Glee episode where they covered her songs, but personally I don’t get the allure of Lady Gaga myself. Sure, her theatricality might be leading the performance arts trend now, but half the time I can’t tell what she’s singing about.
Hahah….. I’m a 70’s music kinda girl myself. I give a lot of importance to the lyrics and melody.
I love Glee! The theatricality was interesting at first but now it’s getting a bit tired.
And Seinfeld is timeless to me….I watch reruns and still love Jerry, the cast and the show. I’m a big Curb Your Enthusiasm fan too.
Yeah… theatricality is cool and all, but at the same time I find that it doesn’t make it as accessible.
And like you, at the end of the day I prefer the simplicity and magic of a really good hook and lyrics that mean something.
You would like this then… Lady Gaga raw before fame and commercialisation…
much better 🙂
