Dean & Deluca is a culinary store that opened in 1977 in New York and is finally here in Singapore. It’s intention was to celebrate food. I always imagined it was older though, due to the frenzy surrounding it’s opening here. Just had to see it for myself.
These were my first impressions:
The monochromatic scheme is pretty breath-taking. The products are beautifully packaged, but insanely expensive. Everyone was looking at the groceries but no one was buying, well at least when I was there. The tables at the cafe were too close together. More close for comfort than most food courts. But I must say the iced latte I had was so lovely. Similar to what I had at 40 Hands.
It would be so much better is the area that is not open yet is an extension of the cafe rather than the grocery section, as more seats are needed. There were some empty barstools about, but those are never comfortable to me. Demand is really high, going by the crowds and lines I saw. My companion was commenting that here you can buy gifts for our atas friends who have everything, and we giggled about that. I thought I saw a tea or jam that cost a whopping 90 bucks. And the prettily packaged pink peppermint marshmallows that had me swooning – over S$15.
I think I’ll let the photos do the talking as usual.
I was absolutely delighted by the flavoured sugar.
And spice racks. We were in kitchen heaven.
All the utensils were so pretty but the prices all out of our range. Would make cool gifts though.
So many photos. I’ll have to feature the Dean & Deluca Cafe in my next post.

It reminds me a little of Jones the Grocer at Dempsey Hill – which has lovely food for sale (especially the cheese! Lovelovelove the cheese room!) but also insanely expensive. Though not as expensive as the air-flown melons in the Meidi-Ya, which I’ve seen price tagged for up to 119 Sg dollar.
oh yes those beautiful melons at Meidi-ya..I just gaze in wonder at the perfection.
I need to go. They used to sell D&D vermont maple syrup at marketplace but don’t anymore (for obvious reasons) and I’ve been missing it
everything there is so beautifully packaged and enticing. I wanna go again 🙂
