The Icing Room

Singaporeans, especially teenaged girls love cute things. I think that’s the main draw for this new confectionary chain called ‘The Icing Room‘. Even though I am eons away from my teens, I find it really pretty. Couldn’t resist taking pictures to share of it’s pink and white decor. The bubbly girls in their pink frilly uniforms, look like characters out of a Japanese manga. To be perfectly honest, I don’t think the cakes are exceptional, but the decor is pretty refreshing and perks up a otherwise stale mall experience. And the fun bit is you’re allowed to decorate your own cakes with all kinds of icing and toppings. Since I didn’t buy anything, the photos were hurriedly snapped at the basement of Tampines 1 (another relatively new mall in the eastern part of Singapore).

Being ‘kaypoh’ (Singlish or Singapore English for nosy) I decided to do a bit of research and found that this new establishment is part of the BreadTalk chain that seems to be in every mall right now. I am not really a fan, because I prefer the old fashioned buns that are sold at the markets which come hot out of the oven.

Oh so that’s what they were doing. For a moment I thought some sort of a cooking demonstration was going on. So is breadtalk giving a discount because now the customers have to decorate their own cakes? Hahahha….

I thought it was some kind of kids baking school when I first saw it at Jurong. Bread Talk is probably raking in the profits as we speak.
